1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz
On September 1, at Auburn Fall (Indiana), RM Sotheby's will auction this beautiful 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz for an estimate price of $US 150,000. Its style represents the peak of American exuberance of the 50's and 60's with chrome and large tailfins...
History of the Cadillac Eldorado
The Eldorado was produced by Cadillac from 1952 to 2002, the top of the line during 10 generations. There're two models with different names :
- the Eldorado Seville for the hardtop,
- the Eldorado Biarritz for the convertible.
This model is the third generation (1957–1960) of the Eldorado. Cadillac was in transition with the retirement of Harley Earl, General Motors Chief Designer and his replacement by William Mitchell. Harley Earl loved chrome and taller tailfins
in contrary of William Mitchell, less ornamental.
Technical specification
The 1960 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz has 390 cu in OHV V8 engine producing 345 hp with a transmission 4-speed Hydra-Matic. It was produced at only 1,285 in 1960. It comes with power windows, steering and brakes, air conditioning, cruise control and Autronic Eye (see the ad in the Bonus section).
This model was restored for $US 200,000 with a stunning red leather interior.
