Model 3 takes over Norwegian car market

in #cars6 years ago (edited)

From February, Tesla started delivering their Model 3 to a selection of markets in Europe. One of those was the absolute front runner in EV adoption: Norway. Less than two months later we can already conclude that the car is a huge success there.

M3 sales in Norway

Below a screenshot of the website Elbilstatistikk.no can be seen. This year, already 3,345 Model 3s have been sold. In the first three weeks of March, more than 2,500 3s were sold. This is already a delivery record for sold EVs in one month and the best month for Tesla ever.

Sales in perspective

When you take into account that, on average, between 10,000 and 15,000 cars are sold per month in Norway, we can already conclude that the share of the Model 3 this month will be impressively large. When the sales go on in this pace, a 30% to 40% share in the total car market could be possible! The total EV share will likely be over 70% then.
When you then take into account that only the two most expensive variants of the Model 3 are available, one can only imagine how high this share will be when the cheaper ones are starting to cross the Atlantic. Exciting times are ahead!

Just rode in one. It was a fast car.

They are pretty fast indeed! Ordered one straightaway?

Posted using Partiko Android

Nope. I don’t have money for that yet. Someday. I’ll never take out a loan for a car. So it takes me a long time to purchase cars and usually purchase really old ones.

Have you checked out the Rivian truck? That would be my pick for electric.

The Rivian looks awesome. In Europe trucks however are not very common and also the roads usually are smaller, so they are not ideal to use. That's why the Model 3 makes so much sense (and is so popular) here.

That’s an amazing statistic EVs are still very much a novelty her in Australia. It is great to see that all the local shopping malls now have charging stations. I’ve not seen any model 3’s here yet as I don’t think they’re released the right hand drive version yet. Tesla quite often have a pop up display in the mall. Usually with a model X on display but at almost AU$150,000 it’s way out of the average persons reach. Hyundai are just about to release thei Ionic EV and it’ll be closer to AU$50,000.

Right hand drive will follow later this year. Then you should also first get the expensive ones and later. probably next year, one that will be around AU$60.000. The IONIQ is very good too by the way. Very efficient, but a little bit too little range for longer distances. Inside a city however they are great daily drivers.

Yes range is a issue here in Australia as we are such a large country even our cities are not compact. I know the Nissan Leaf and MIEV driver need to plan thier journeys well but with more and higher capacity chargers it’s getting easier.
