Show us a typical day in your life.
If you have ever talked to me then you know that I am a car guy. Today I will walk you through what most of my days are like. Every day in my job is different than the day before or the day after will be. As Forrest Gump would say it's like a Box of chocolates I never know what I'm gonna get.
Today I started out with a doorlatch. That pays 2.0 hours. As a mechanic we get paid on flat rate. This means each job has a predetermined amount of time it pays no matter how long it takes you to do it. That can be really good or really bad.
After that I had a transmission fluid exchange. I machined out his filler tool and made the pressurized filler ot of a bug sprayer.
So that is another hour in the paycheck.
Next up was an airbag recall. Basically I am pulling the explosive out of a bomb and putting a new explosive in. Put another 1.5 in the bank. So sitting at 4.5 for the day.
Rolling right along I got to do some easy work that pays great. 4 tires and a 4 wheel alignment. Pays 2.0 each or 4 total.
Now it was lunch time and time to mess around on the internet.
After food time I had to get going again.
Next up was a seat cover. Not glamorous but I will take 2.3 hours any day.
Went ahead and started on a job I will finish on Monday. It will pay 16 hours. I am putting a used engine in a car. So first thing is first. It needs a new timing belt. The timing mark is on the transmission so i had to improvise and use paint marks to align it all.
After I get done with it I chuck it all in my scrap pile and recycle it for some $$$ to blow on crypto. Lol.
So let's hear about a normal day for you.
That was a very interesting day. You need a pretty varied set of skills to do your job.

I have been a mechanic for about 17 years now. I went to a 2 year tech school in Texas then started at a dealership after that.
2 hours for tires and 2 hours for alignment! Gravy💲💲 I get less than 2 hours for 4 tires and alignment together, straight time though...

Oh yes it is. I love doing tires and alignments. That's the best of all the gravy jobs. You should see our tire machine. It has auto pilot. Lol.
I hardly ever worked flat rate. I was an equipment mech and most of that doesn't have a flat rate manual :) I'm really glad to see you over 10 hours billed and a nice start on a 16 hour Monday. Always a nice way to start a week!
Though I am retired I still do some of that same work, though mostly on motorcycles. I don't have a flat rate manual, but I have at least a fair idea of what a job will take and set my bid accordingly. Sometimes I take a job not to make any money but to help out a friend with an interesting job.
Yep. I do not get to do as much side work anymore since the kids have so many activities and he race car takes a lot of time.
I get so much mileage out of your passion! lol

VSDC free one....I might have to upgrade though...it's annoying being unable to use some functions...it is prone to crashing, it seems - so just 'save' a lot!
(I'm on old comp though - there are better ones out there, - but my comp can't take the weight! hitman is supposed to be one of the best, from what I gather - if you have the comp power)
