What is Low Stress Training (LST) on Cannabis Plants? (SIMPLE GUIDE)

in #cannabis7 years ago (edited)

Note: I'm not an expert or a professional, I'm just using my street knowledge.

Good afternoon, evening or morning! If you clicked on this post then you are here to find out what Low Stress Training (or LST for short) is and how to implement it onto your plants. LST can increase your yield, giving you more of that precious kush so you won't have to make trips back and forth to your dealer in a months time.

What is Low Stress Training?

The internet revolutionizing the way we grow cannabis, take steemit for example :) If it weren't for the internet we would still be growing the plant in unsuitable growing mediums with one main cola on the plant that is more perceptible to mold and bud rot. Times have changed in the last few decades to allow us to find new, and improved ways of farming this great medicine.

Now to the point we have all been waiting for; Low Stress Training is a technique that makes your plant look kind of like a bonsai tree. This technique makes the plant short and wide, spreading out the buds to penetrate more light the canopy. Too train your plant is too bend and tie the main stem down of a young plant so it is level to the ground forcing the new branches to bend up towards the light source. You repeat the process the the other branches for maximum efficiency.

Too put this into action you have to be careful not to bend the stem to much otherwise it would snap or split the stem which might lead to disease or pest to infect the plant, resulting in either low yield or an unfortunate death. You can just tape the stem together and hope for the best. Let me put it into steps to show you how LST is put into work.

Step 1: Topping your plant

Too start off this technique you cut the top node off plant after it has grow the too the 3 -5 node. A node is a leave set, where the branches start to grow from. Too do this just pinch with two of your finger nails and taking off the first set of leaves. This will split the plants stem into two and make two top colas instead of one big one come harvest time.

Here is an example:

Here is my example:

Step 2: Tying down your plant

After you top your plant you will need to have some method of tying down the top node of the plant and slowly bend it the stem then finding a way to make it stay like that. I got creative and used a flexible cable tie, string and electrical tape. I used the cable tie and twisted it around the top node careful not to scrape it against the stem because it can cause aberrations on the plant which is similar to you getting your skin ripped of your body. Next I then looped the string through the cable tie and taped both of the ends to the cup.

Here is my example of LST:

Step 3: repeat step 1 and every few weeks

If you want to read a full guide on how to do this properly then go to growweedeasy.com, this is the site I use when I need to look up nutrient problems, ph issues or what product is the best for the job.

Here is my plant recorrecting itself (The plant has had some issues, it's still loading):

Thank!
need try

Cool post! Good infographics for beginners. Writing a book on this but, just some tidbits that may help- Topping right above the 2nd node will make 4 colas every time. Very much recommended and can get systematic results. Also, you may not want to stress a plant that young in the last couple pictures, it may slow their growth too much, but you can find the best results for yourself :) Happy harvesting! Stay lifted
