[Stoner Travels] Intro / Colombia, Bogota

in #cannabis6 years ago (edited)

Sharing experience with fellow stoners who happen to travel / 420 subscribers celebration.

I've been travelling a lot since 2016 and in most countries I've visited I managed to get some dope, among other psychonaut experiences. Solely for the sake of Science, of course.

So lately I got an idea to start sharing tips and tricks with my readers, as well as photos of some cool smoking devices I encounter while bumming around the globe.
It's kind of a hobby and I also have a nice collection of such stuff:

Left to right:

  • Chillum (India) with a spare stopper stone and some medical bandages to serve as filter.
  • Pipes (Thailand, Colombia, Dominican Republic) and filters.
  • My new grinder (Colombia). Good grinder with partitions for grinded stuff and for dust, which is awesome.
  • Weed box (Nepal). The pearl of my collection.
  • My old grinder (Thailand). Bad grinder, no partitions, just some hails on the inside.
  • Joint case (Iran) and all the expendables for joints.
  • Farther away are some pipe cleaners and a pouch of tobacco.

Not only this, I also want to discover and share the culture of consuming marijuana, based on the personal experience and some online research. For instance, I was quite impressed with Indian smoking culture when some monks in Jaipur invited me over to smoke some chillums with them.

Also, some useful links (not always useful and sometimes conflicted, but something to have a general idea):

Sometimes they are all completely useless, for countries like Dominican Republic or Myanmar. But that's what I'm here for!

Having done with basic stuff, let's take a look at Bogota, the capital of Colombia.

Finding:
It is extremely easy to find some pot around here. Weed is as common as tobacco and is clearly recognizable from afar by its distinctive smell. You can ask people on the streets, in hostels, etc. In my opinion, the easiest way is to come to Universidad de los Andes, in front of which there is a lawn where smoking pot is kinda legal, and it is actively used by students who chill there every afternoon, consuming profound amounts of pot which is next to free here, just ask around. The police looks the other way, but keep a low profile.

Prices:
Aim for 5000 COP (<2$) for 5 grams of good quality product. At least on the lawn mentioned above, in other places it can get to 10-15 thousands and you can also get other sorts like the one they call "creepy" which is sold rolled in horrible aromatic paper.

Smoking:
Generally people are okay with it, but be careful around cops, I've seen local people get busted by them for smoking in a park. They seemed to be okay in the end, but as a foreigner you are an easy target for cops who would love to bust you just to take a bribe from you.

Multitude of smoking stuff available everywhere

Legality:
It is complicated question and according to locals there are different regulations in place. Some allow you to have less than 15 (?) grams, some do not allow any. So it's basically up to the cops to decide what to do with your gringo ass should you get caught. I got caught once (with <5g) and they just threw away my stash, I didn't even had to pay. But usually you would need to pay bribe up to 50 000 COP.

Alright, that will be all for now, let me know if you're interested in posts like this and what are your places of interest, I can make an overview by memory if I've been there already. Even if not, chances are, I will be there one day to make another post.

When I was traveling, I always thought that it would be awesome to have a website for helping travelers find weed.

I had some of that inexpensive Colombian herb when I was Bogota too. I can't remember the price exactly, but it was cheap and it was the best quality herb I saw in South America.

Are you going to Peru? I might be able to give you some tips. I bought at least 2 bags of fake weed there. Maybe I can help you avoid the mistakes that I made :)

Hey mate, would be cool to exchange experiences, that's for sure! Yeah, I'm going to Peru eventually and I think your advice will be handy.

The main thing is to never buy a bag of weed that they won't let you open up and look at. They try to pass off a local herb wrapped in clear packing tape as weed. They act all sketched out, like the police might be watching, and only let you smell it real quick. It does smell a little like weed too. People selling real shit will let you examine it.

In places like Cusco and Arequipa, I mostly asked vendors in the Plaza de Armas. People selling paintings and drawings, things like that. They all know each other and know who's got weed. The weed I did get there was pretty bad. It reminded me of the pressed Mexi shwag we used to get in southern California. It worked, but it made me miss Colombia.

There was good weed in Lima, but I got that through a friend that I made there. In the northern beach towns, the taxi and tuk-tuk drivers are usually a good bet. In Mancora, I was offered weed before I even got my backpack from under the bus, when I arrived.

Do it! That's a great idea!

Well, Colombia was and is well known for those big cartels and drug labs; that is to say, that in some way this situation has been permeating towards the majority of the population as consumers; perhaps, the legalization of a limited purchase and consumption aimed at the relaxation or health of the people, is not bad and in the process it can be a way to attack those big illegal drug businesses ... It hurts that my country, Venezuela, does not grant better security conditions for tourists, but it would be a very special stop on your itinerary; since, we have a lot of natural beauties ... Greetings @ nameless-berk

I left Venezuela for later, as I desperately need to improve my Spanish first. It's not gonna be easy to travel, I think. More so without proper Spanish.

We remain at your service for any assistance or information you need around your future trip to Venezuela. Greetings.

Awesome!! nice to read your post @namelessberk :) I find it good as im travelling full time since years and smoking everyday for more than half my life ! Great idea to blog that, can even expand to weed reviews hahaha thanks fro those links they look like fun to check out, upvoted and following!

I usually have no idea what exactly I'm smoking, so reviews while travelling 3rd world countries are probably out of question. Still, there's plenty of information to share with those like us.
Thanks for your interest!

If you need a place in bogota to stay i have a very good friend there a freak who you can go stay with , no problem his a very good guy

Hey, thanks for the offer. If i ever go back to Bogota, I might use your suggestion

i think all cannabis lovers would like to see a pic everynow and then of wht to expect if you go to that country :) Hey why dont you try meet growers in these countrys and take them good female seeds hahahaha

I might, actually

You should!! 😁

@fronttowardsenemy is right. Easiest way to plug in to find herb or anything else is to talk to locals. Bartender, fast-food restaurant workers cabbies, bellhop, and tip a cool person.

Avoid anyone that's stressful or paranoid. Never hand out money first.
Never buy without checking.
Be careful of multiple people who are in on your deal. Just your bag. No group order if you don't know them.

And know your source. Trust goes both ways.

Do you happen to collect seeds from the bud you score?

There are no seeds in the proper bud. And I'm not sure if the dogs are gonna smell it or not, so I do not. Yet.

Ok good to know :)

Maybe only as a souvenir I would buy such things.
But I would not try.

Very nice when we share experiences with our friends this girl leads to evolution

What girl?
