100 Strains Bud Review: Sour Diesel

in #cannabis4 years ago

This bud was my wife MediKatie's 1st purchase from a medical cannabis dispensary, in 2015 - the Vancouver heyday before "legalization" (2018). This was at Eden, upstairs at Cannabis Culture on Davie Street. We were longtime cannabis users, but new to the local dispensary scene, and quickly made friends at lounges and shops across the city!

It was our first time buying weed in medical containers like that (plastic baggies being more common in the underground market). Not bad, acutally! Kinda gimmicky, but also somewhat of an actual upgrade due to protecting the buds from crushing and moisture loss.

Here's @MediKatie coming down the stairs after her purchase, feeling some of the weight of prohibition lifting, as the medicine keeping her alive finally became more easily available in the Vancouver area! It felt like we were part of something powerful that was making our world a better place.

Capsules, infused chocolates, and a quarter ounce of Sour Diesel! We rented a table (with a volcano vapourizer) in the lounge, and cracked open the container:

GREAT smell! A whiff of citrus, pine, and nuts, with a dank undertone of diesel fumes. My mouth was watering! Sour D has always been one of our favorite sativas. Not too stimulating, happy energetic high without anxiety.

The buds weren't overly dense, but contained no air pockets. Just uniform bud, packed with trichomes, perfectly cured. It came apart in perfect little clumps for the grinder. My fingers were coated in lovely pale blonde powdery kief. Strong smell of pine and diesel.

It vaped wonderfully, and we were high within a couple puffs. Smooth taste, with the nuttiness coming out a bit more in the vapour. The little nug we busted lasted several refills of the vapourizer, and we left there in a glorious mood!

It began a 2+ year nonstop cannabis buying and testing phase, which we documented with notes and photographs. (We even loved dispensaries so much, we did a YouTube video teaching other people how to get access to cannabis this way! We also protested dispensary closures, started a 2.5 year cannabis farmers market in downtown Vancouver, and were part of a "Dispensary Safety Squad" which aimed to protect other activists fighting cannabis prohibition.)

Stay tuned for lots more strains - some of the best genetics and growers in the world. We documented over 100 strains!

Sour Diesel is such a classic strain, and delicious especially when done by a good grower!

I miss our classic sour diesel that were like little grape clusters and you didn't need a grinder to bust them up, and they were the perfect addition to any blend, sativa, indica, or hybrid (like garlic in cooking). It was a strong soma, and the beginning of many good things.

It would've been cool to grow a plant of sour diesel and have it turn out like grape clusters again. Other than Karuna and the 420 Farmers Markets, those were some of the best edibles we've ever had too. I loved those big flavoured chocolate pucks, walking down Davie st high as fuck and stuffing our faces haha.

Ahhhh the grape cluster sour D... they said it would last forever, and we believed them.

Hehehe nice GIF of @MediKatie comin' down the stairs with her loot.

Sour Diesel is my favourite Sativa dom strain. Kinda shity the way, it turned out for places after "legalization"

Sour D is still one of my favourite strains

Sounds like your sitting on a gold mine. My first trip the denspencery was an unpleasnt one. But i waa so happy to have my medical card. This was 2012

Nice! Medical cannabis has been legal in Canada since 2001, but it was very hard to get access to. Vancouver did have some black market compassion clubs back then, but only a couple, and MediKatie and I didn't know about them yet. We were doing all our activism online, not attending local events of protests, and getting our weed through the black market (or going without). Upgrading to better weed, lounges to hang out in, and guaranteed inventory was awesome! Our old dealer never got called again hahah.
