Punished For Consuming Cannabis At A Cannabis Festival

in #cannabis6 years ago

Alaska made the move to legalize cannabis several years ago, back in 2014. Though, people weren't able to easily go out and make a purchase the very next day. Bureaucrats took their time (years) in setting up their legal market and it wasn't until 2016 that the first legal dispensary was reportedly opened.

Since then, the cannabis market has been growing quickly, breaking records, and bringing in millions of dollars in tax revenue for the state.

The growing demand for cannabis has also spawned a variety of festivals and one of those festivals is recently being investigated over having allowed people to consume cannabis at the festival.

At most festivals, like dance festivals, rib fests, wine fests, or art fests etc, those attending the events are often able to consume or partake in the activity themselves. But the same can't be said for the cannabis festivals, because people in Alaska are prohibited from smoking cannabis in public.

The cannabis festival in question, Alaska Hempfest, is a 3 day event that's held in Wasilla, it was also allegedly held on private property and there had been an enclosed tent provided to anyone 21+ years or older who wanted to consume cannabis at the event.

The festival is geared toward trying to educate the public about hemp and cannabis, festival goers are able to sample a variety of cannabis products. It's estimated that more than 1,000 people attended the event.

Authorities from the Alaska Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office were allegedly present at the event and had been taking photographs. Now, because folks had allegedly been consuming cannabis during the festival, the director of the Alaska Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office is reportedly looking to recommend a financial punishment for the festival organizers.

A communications director for the event has responded and insisted that they don't believe they did anything wrong. There are regulations prohibiting the consumption of cannabis in public spaces but this festival was held on private property.

LOL! I am not sure if I want laugh at the stupidity of the premise or frown at its absurdity. Technicality aside, this could actually be an embarrassing situation for the local government if media chooses to handle it correctly.

And even that technicality will not hold in the court given that the property is private. I am half convinced that it might be an elaborate prank. No way they'll embarrass themselves like that............... then on the other hand, they just might.......

Sounds like they were after the money all along and waited for the right moment for the heist. You can't make this stuff up. Sad. Cannabis helps so many people. Thanks for sharing my friend @doitvoluntarily

That still sucks... pretty dumb that a plant cause so many issues for people. Interesting read for sure @doitvoluntarily!

thx for checking it out!:)

I know in my state, which has the recreational cannabis use on the ballot for November, says that even if you are on YOUR own front porch (private property), if your neighbors or passers-by can SEE you.. it is considered smoking in a public place... ALL because THEY CAN SEE YOU?

It sounds a lot like legalization in Canada, sadly: ridiculously long to implement, no public consumption, crackdown on events and the culture, trying to lump cannabis with alcohol, etc. I'm sure there's even more similarities, and there will probably be more as legaLIEsation takes hold in Canada. I would love to go to Hempfest or another weed festival.

Well to be very honest I was literally unaware of it that cannabis and marijuana can be consumed this openly. It means authorities are there to just take the photographs lolx

By the this news enhanced my information, Thanks @doitvoluntarily

Siempre y cuando su consumo sea realizado en los espacios donde se permiten no creo que tengán los festivales muchos problemas para continuar y es impresionante la cantidad de personas más de 1000 @doitvoluntarily

For the most part, our elected officials are weak spineless, untrustworthy sycophants who are not your friends. They are not your friends because they are, well, weak, spineless, untrustworthy sycophants. They create most laws (and too many laws) in order to create new criminals. They do not care about laws unless they can make money from them somehow. One needs to ask why it is illegal to partake in public. You need to question this and find out the answer. Is it for the kids?

That is usually the pablum they use. So instead of going outside and partaking outdoors, you need to partake on private property usually indoors where children are. Now, that is not consistent.

Additionally, if that is the reason then any reasonable attempt to prevent it from being utilized around children should fulfill the requirements and spirit of the law. However, this is not the case as all the authorities want is to be able to make money from these types of laws.

You need to question your elected representatives and not take any feces from them. If they feed you yummy tasty feces, then don’t elect them. Start awareness campaigns regarding your politician’s positions and publicize them, particularly in your shops.

When it comes to governments, it feels like them against us. Our governments are supposed to be by the people for the people. They are not, and our government officials constantly need to be taught where their places are. Now, go out there and start teaching!

Armchair quarterback.

Bullshit. You are a armchair critic, you criticize and offer nothing. You are a backseat driver. You are safely ignored. Thanks for your insight. Great.

So what is your solution? put up with it? shoot oneself? oh,l I should not even offer any solutions. OK. Brilliant. Go smoke another one and complain about your nihilistic life.

I just don't get how this simple and widely beneficial plant can get so many people's shorts in a twist... it increasingly borders on the absurd.

On private property, huh? If it was on private property, I wonder if the people had been properly "invited," otherwise they could be trespassing without a warrant...

Sometimes even indirectly. My Poloniex account was "suspended" last year because Poloniex refused to buy some kind of "license" required by the state of Washington (basically requiring the exchange to collect personal information from their account holders) because they state was afraid they were losing revenue in taxes because cannabis dealers and farmers were bypassing the "legal way" by using cryptocurrencies.

The theme of this planet seems to be "Throw 'em all in a pot and let them claw at each other until they figure out how to get along". Passio once said this was a prison planet for thieves, and this idea has since lingered in my mind. Thousands of years and still counting... haven't made much headway.

I began my life as a thief, and am now totally cured - I wonder if those like us will be able to move on from here next time around. God, I hope so... I can't take much more of this.
