Family Donates $3 Million To Fund Medical Cannabis Education And Research

in #cannabis8 years ago

The Lambert family from Sydney Australia, well over a year ago decided to donate roughly $33.7 million dollars to medical cannabis research, after they personally witnessed their granddaughter see benefit from using cannabis as a medical treatment.

And now they've decided to make another generous investment in giving at $3 million to fund a new medical research cannabis center for Thomas Jefferson University (TJU).

The center is expected to be named The Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp and it will be the first of its kind in the United States. The University is a private school and it hosts roughly 2,000 students at a time, located in Philadelphia.

The money coming from the Lamberts' is going to fund research in the area of medicinal cannabis, looking at a range of cannabinoids that are derived from the cannabis plant. They also want to explore the potential health benefits related to hemp, which is a non-psychoactive variety of the plant and it has a myriad of different uses from building houses (hempcrete) to being used in basic textiles, for paper, ropes, and more.

This new research center makes Jefferson the first major health sciences university, located in the U.S., that has moved forward with looking to provide a comprehensive academic resource for medicinal research on cannabis and hemp.

Though they themselves don't use cannabis, the Lambert family couldn't help but be impressed when they saw how cannabis was able to help their granddaughter; who suffers from a rare disorder referred to as Dravet Syndrome. Seeing the success has consequently fueled their passion to invest in further research and development in the area of medicinal cannabis.

Overall, the family has already donated at least $36+ million of their personal fortune, toward advancing further medical cannabis research. Not only have they established the new center at Jefferson University but they've also helped to fund related research at Sydney University too.

nice post :)

Good Post! There should be more people supporting this potent medical plant!

Sorry I missed this article when you first posted it @doitvoluntarily...
It's a good one! Well done!
My understanding is that dravet syndrome is a rare form of epilepsy with a genetic component. It's the same kind that little Charolette has, which is who Charolette's web CBD oil was originally created for in Colorado, by the Stanley brothers.
