Family Donates $33.7 Million To Cannabis Research After It Saved Their Granddaughter's Life

The Lambert family are a wealthy family from Sydney, Australia decided more than a year ago that they were going to donate roughly $33.7 million to medical cannabis research after they say the plant helped to treat their granddaughter. Barry Lambert is one of the richest men in Australia and is the executive chairman of Countplus which is a professional services group. Their granddaughter, Katelyn, suffers from a rare disorder known as Dravet Syndrome, and to battle her constant seizures the family has seen the benefits first hand of giving their child cannabis oil to help treat them.

Katelyn's father came across a CNN documentary that discussed the benefits of CBD medicine that was low in THC oil and that is when the family started to consider branching out to try an alternative for their granddaughter. And the family says that once they started giving the cannabis to their granddaughter that the change they saw in her was immediate.

The family says that since taking the CBD the child has been much happier, more alert, and is able to go to school. They no longer need to live in such fear that she is going to have multiple seizures every day. The family were so impressed with their own personal experiences that they decided to share their fortune with trying to advance further medical cannabis research.

Thanks to their funding, they've been able to establish The Lambert Initiative, which will see various studies to be conducted at Sydney University and they will aim to explore the potential of compounds that are derived from the cannabis plant, in possibly helping to treat various illnesses and disease.

Thanks to their funding, the most recent (and groundbreaking) study into cannabis extracts treating epileptic kids was launched just a couple of months ago on August 18th 2016; Paediatric Epilepsy Lambert Initiative Cannabinoid Analysis (PELICAN study). The PELICAN study is going to be focused on examining the various oils and extracts, and they will also be conducting numerous interviews with parents who are or have been treating their own children in the same way.

The Lambert's themselves don't use cannabis and it wasn't until they saw how the oil helped their granddaughter, that they were then able to embrace the plant, despite their former fears fueled by years of anti-cannabis propaganda. They are just one family out of many thousands around the world who have changed their minds in recent years and their views on cannabis, because of the many stories we keep on hearing on the news and in the media about how many children and other individuals who are being helped by this plant.
