Adults Between 18-34 Are Major Driving Force Behind Success Of Cannabis In Colorado

in #cannabis6 years ago (edited)

Youth rates for cannabis use in Colorado remain flat, while adult usage has been growing.

According to 2 recent surveys that were conducted by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the results indicate that cannabis usage is up for adults in Colorado who are over the age of 21 years old.

Back in 2016, adult usage was seen to be around 13.6 percent, however that has now grown to around 15.5 percent usage. Their core customer is allegedly between the 18-34 year range, they're the major driving factor behind the surge in cannabis use.

When you look at cannabis use with children however, we see a bit of a difference.

One previous survey from 2017 suggested that for Colorado, there are roughly 1 in 5 kids who currently use cannabis. Comparing that data to 2013, researchers suggest that there hasn't been any change in usage since the legal market came about.

Several years ago, only about 20 percent of children had reported that they used cannabis.

This data goes against the fear held by prohibitionists that legalization will entice people who otherwise wouldn't have been interested in consuming a particular substance, into adopting a regular use of it; simply because it is now legal to do so. No doubt there are millions of people who tomorrow wouldn't go out and start shooting-up with heroin just because government decided to end their war against it and legalize it.

A separate study on legalization in Washington found similar results, that the move there to legalize didn't mean a sudden increase in usage for kids. As well, previous research from Oregon has also found that legalization didn't fuel much of an increase in use for youth, but they did see an increase for usage with college students.

After lawmakers finalized their plans and moves to endorse legalization in the state, they've since seen hundreds of millions of dollars in sales. In 2017 it's estimated that Colorado saw over $1 billion in cannabis sales.

Some folks in Colorado were under the impression that the funds would inevitably trickle down into the schools, but teachers there say that they haven't seen a cent of a difference since legalization took place. And thousands of teachers there who have recently been busy protesting the issue of education funding, have reportedly started to wonder when, if ever, they might see those funds start to come in. It's reported that some of the funds have been allocated to construction programs, tens of millions of dollars, and a few other school programs such as anti-bullying initiatives and more.

As the cannabis market has continued to see steady success in Colorado it has also meant that there has been a drastic increase in the cost of living for many there. And so for several teachers, they face difficulties of not being able to afford to live in the community that they teach in and this has prompted some community members to work with lawmakers to try and establish affordable housing options for them. This means that some schools are working to create their own teacher housing venues. Some school leaders admit that they're already having difficulty with trying to find multiple replacements because they've lost teachers due to this cost of living in the region. Those behind the teacher housing idea hope that it will enable them to recruit and retain new teachers in the community, by giving them a housing option they can afford.

Will Colorado officials be able to allocate those funds efficiently to supposedly boost the quality of education in the state, as was allegedly the purpose behind the confiscation of those funds? I think it's safe to say that we shouldn't expect to see much of a dramatic difference to come from the same folks who cannot balance their own budget.

While I am a supporter of disciplined enjoyment of the fine herb, I must admit that I am a bit concerned for children as society warms up to more general acceptance. I am good as I avoided it til I was through college and my kids are almost teenagers so only a few more years!

If only we could get rid of the smoking (and make vaping supp[ly abundant and affordable) then I can see how this would be a VAST improvement over cramming a few beers through your digestive tract. It would also have a positive impact on obesity and dad bod with less barley sandwiches being consumed. ;)

none of this surprises me @doitvoluntarily cannabis use is amazing especially people over 20 years and the saddest thing is that they incite other people have to have better control, and we parents have to be more aware of what our children do and where they go. if it is a consumption that you have to do for medicine is something else but you still have to have control because what I know is wonderful for people with pain helps them to have a better quality of life, interesting friend publication thanks for sharing greetings

This information is a sad reality that the vast majority of young people now have seized that cannabis and it is unfortunate, those who benefit are the supermarket making their sales, but the state has to take control to reduce all this

The state has no jurisdiction. The only thing they can do is support education initiatives. Learn about #cannabis and know all of the wonderful benefits it provides. Not just hemp for victory but #phoenixtears.

How real this information is sharing us. I still do not know what this plant is, I feel a little in the clouds.
I will take the obligation to investigate it.

The use of medical cannabis is becoming more frequent, there is more information about it, those who use them are those who share the positive comments
Thank you very much dear friend @doitvoluntarily for sharing this information and your statistical data

It's good to hear that the kids aren't getting stoned off there ass now that getting weed is like getting beer. In fact in may actually be harder for a minor to get pot now. I remember being 17 and often getting illegal drugs through a dealer was much easier than buying alcohol with a fake ID.

Another great report my friend. Keep it up. From Kiev Ukraine -Dan "World Travel Pro!"
