Well, that's what some buyers are already complaining about when it comes to their legal cannabis purchases. Perhaps my use of the word complaining isn't justified here, as they're just voicing concern. Valid concerns, in my opinion.
Since the premise of this blog post is downsides to legalization, I feel it's interesting here to point out a positive about prohibition: it allowed many people to grow and distribute cannabis in the manner they saw fit, which is/was essentially whatever is most economic and effective.
The government, on the other hand, in the name of safety, packages cannabis more like, say, cough medicine. A box with some information on the outside, with all sorts of warning labels and whatnot. Inside the box is a jar with cannabis in it, which of course has a child-resistant top. Shrink-wrapping may have been involved - maybe even more than once.
I got yer apple right here, pal.
Of course, you'll need to put your dirty demon weed in a brown bag if you're going to be, say, walking all the way back to your car or whatever mode of transportation you use. That's a lot of packaging, and it's probably not even all that much weed because you can only buy so much at a time now.
To play devil's advocate, one could argue that commercial packaging like this is what it is, and it's bad, but any large company is essentially going to insist upon it, for whatever reason. To expect the cannabis industry to be any different would be naïve.
I, for one, like the idea of buying cannabis at farmer's markets more than buying it at Walgreen's. The focus of legalization should be for people to just grow their own.
