What a followup to 150th Celebration!

It feels like Canadian flag just got redder, out of shame?

Just saw this in Toronto Star, but didn't see much discussion about it on Steemit. If you too, like me, would rather stay away from politics, that's fine. But visit a small town in rural Canada, slowly dying from unemployment. Those who do work - squeezed for the last penny with taxes.

To pay for this?

Why? Because we so politically correct, because we different from Americans? Wow! When will you apologize to your people for not providing basic medical services, waiting for months for surgeries, or nursing home care? Unemployed youths going for drugs out of despair and lack of a future?

PS. Dear gov.ca, pleas let me know if the post is offensive to you, I will apologize and remove it.

This is the crap i hate about this country, There is no reason to pay 10 million to a pos that has killed Canadian solders why not just fucking let him rot.

Our Government likes to give OUR hard earned tax money away

Our Government likes to give OUR hard earned tax money away

This how I feel too. And I wouldn't mind it if we were flush with money, and took care of our sick and elderly. But it seems, we are not.

Maybe you should read his story? he didnt kill a Canadian soldier, he was accused of throwing a grenade that killed an American. No proof, but he was there.

Omar was 15 years old, forced by his father and uncles to be there. There is no proof he killed anyone other than a confession that was forced under torture, that 15 year old boy, a Canadian citizen! was threatened with rape, kept awake for days, left in the heat, physically assulted. Do you think you would have survived it?.. oh, and all of this while recovering from serious injury.

Canada has the responsibility to protect its citizens, the Harper Conservatives (government at the time) did nothing, had they insisted he not be subject to torture they would have avoided this lawsuit, as it is? This money amount was decided on by the Supreme Court of Canada, not the government.

This boy lost his youth, it was spent in a horrible prison. The cause? an illegal war, a fool of a father and an irresponsible government.

Save your anger about wasted money for the big oil and mining companies that get subsidised and given millions in tax cuts in spite of making monstrous profits.

Forgive my vigor in this rant, but I get so frustrated with misplaced blame and anger. This child was treated unfairly and 10 million dollars does not come close to repaying him for the loss of over 10 years. Blame the real bad guys follow the money...

This money amount was decided on by the Supreme Court of Canada, not the government.

it's a valid point, I would respectfully disagree with the rest. 15 yo child got to know what he is doing. He seems to know how to make improvised explosives?
And BTW, our Supreme Court should interpret laws passed by the Parliament - elected by the ppl of this country. So, to my ignorant mind, people should have a say in all of this.
