B&W Photo Contest - Churches | Symbol of a city
My last two entries to the B&W Photo Contest hosted by @daveks are about a very old church, built in 1497 by one of the greatest Romanian rulers, Stephen the Great Prince of Moldavia.
This is the Nativity of St. John the Baptist Church located in Piatra Neamt, Romania. Both church and the bell tower were initially part of Prince Stephen's royal court, and they are well preserved examples of the 15th century Moldavian religious architecture.

The church tower, named Stephen's tower, was built a year later after the church was established and its main purpose was, and is, as a bell tower. However, it had a secondary role as an observation tower, allowing the guards to watch over the entrance to the Neamt citadel.
Today, the tower is the symbol of the city.
