This is a "close-up" of water in a mountain stream, taken with a 600mm ultra-telephoto zoom lens at its minimum focusing distance of about 9 feet (or 3 meters).

No flash either. I use a biathlon-inspired technique to hold my camera steady in combination with proper shutter-time selection. I'm planning to write a few photography tip posts and will certainly address this there.
