Butterfly Aglais urticae
In one of the flower shops, I was lucky not only to see this butterfly, but also to photograph it and even take a video.
I don’t know why but the butterfly let me very close to her !!!
Naturally, I wanted to know her name and learn something about her.
Here is what information I found on the Internet about her.
Aglais urticae, rusałka pokrzywnik, small tortoiseshell, petite tortue - this butterfly is one of the most famous.
In Russia, it is called Urticaria. Because
nettle is one of the feed plants of caterpillars of this species.
The female butterfly lays from 100 to 200 yellow eggs on the lower part of the nettle leaf.
In one summer, Aglais urticae can grow from 2 to 3 generations.
An adult butterfly eats nectar, and its larva (caterpillar) is nettled.
Males and females are very similar in color.
Standing on a plant, Aglais urticae can taste it, since their taste buds are on its paws.
This butterfly is also able to distinguish red color.
She has a life expectancy of approximately 9 months.
