ON MARRIAGE: BE CAREFUL TAKING ADVICE FROM MARRIAGE COUNSELORS.

in #busy6 years ago (edited)

The church I attend had a marriage seminar last week, that ended today. The man in charge of the marriage seminar said different things about how to live a success marriage life.

I agreed with some of the things he said on marriage and some I didn't agree, but I didn't not agree with most things he said about how to live a successful marriage life.

Marriage counselors are not always correct about their advice on how to live a successful married life. I have come across couples who took advice from a marriage counselor and it led to the demise of their marriage. Marriage counselor, might still be good, but be careful how you use them because they can be bad also.

No man can tell this or that is how to handle marriage because what might work for him, might not work for you. For me, I consult the spiritual side of me by asking God for wisdom on how to go about marriage.

I once went to a couples counselor with a boyfriend and it definitely ended the relationship. There was a lot we were accepting of each other because we loved and respected each other. But all the counselor could see were our imperfections, which she highlighted. So then it was easier to be with other people we didn't yet see so clearly! I think in a relationship it's important to give the other a lot of benefit of the doubt. No one can be perfect.

Exactly, this is what am talking about @indigoocean. The counselors are too professional to allow imperfections that they mess thing up instead of fixing it.

No man, no matter the name he bears can give what he has not. Marriage counselling should not be based generally on personal experience. The main antidote to marriage crises is in the WORD. The WORD of GOD the originator of MARRIAGE.

Exactly @praise-eu. Long time.

You're certainly right about not taking anybody's advice on how to handle your business at face value. I'd say counselors like that are at best sources of second opinion if you will. An experienced marriage counselor has talked to a lot of couples. They might have some insight. But they, too, might have a personal bias.

So true @markkujantunen. Their bias is what can make them make or break a marriage.

How are you doing today?

I'm a Finn, so I'm going to answer that question as if it was an actual question. :D

It's been a pretty normal Sunday. I didn't sleep all that well but not terribly badly, either. After attending @gamer00's younger son's birthday party (I drove my daughter there and stayed at the party; it was for kids.) I felt tired and napped for an hour and half. Then I cleaned. We had dinner and a cup of tea before bedtime. Now I'm at the 'puter thinking how long I should stay up. You?

Nothing really much. I just visited few friends and came back home and now am preparing for work tomorrow.
