Hope is an Interesting Source of Motivation
A while back we were joking around in Discord about the concept of hope, and mocking the idea that fiddling with Math is going to fix Steem.
The conversation made me contemplate the idea of a great come back for Steem. All indicators say no... we are dropping in satoshis, dropping in active users, dropping in payouts, dropping on CoinMarketCap and struggling to find a vision.
I wonder if there is still a table of optimists at Myspace hoping the next CodeDrop will bring about features that will allow them to recoup the number 1 position from Facebook. :)
I imagine they sit at the same table at lunch and brainstorm what they could do to compete with top social media sites, I bet some of them have learned to be okay with where they are at, while others still hope.
Often once a well-known project has dropped too far they have to go through a rebranding phase or make a huge story, in order to get rediscovered. It is pretty impossible for me to imagine that, but it doesn't mean it can't happen.
Before this makes you too depressed though.. Steem the blockchain doesn't have to be the breakthrough product. It could be a game or an app. Or slow growth of many games or apps. Or we could just continue to hope.
I'm not sure what will happen it's still a very young market but without serious intervention I kind of chuckle when I hear some of you still talking about being a top 10 crypto. I have no idea what you are basing that on.
I do hold hope though. I hope we rise and fall with the markets, I do hope we will have some decent pumps, some new Apps, I do hope we gain a better distribution and who knows over time we could begin to build some value.
I think many will continue to make Steem work for them.
And some will just hope....
We will not know who is right and who was wrong for a long time...
Snakes shed their skin when they are growing. I'm told it's quite a painful process for them.
Which crypto has this many users and are as active as we are?
Which crypto has this
Many users and are as
Active as we are?

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.
How many users do we have? What is your measure? Active account certainly isn't but even then we have 26k. We have an easy to find community which is shrinking.
I'll wait on you to come back with those top 10 crypos that have as many users as we do or are as active as we are..
I do actually think you're right about this. If you compare how many users we have to the big centralized platforms, it's a drop in the bucket, but compared to other crypto projects Steem, even with all it's problems has the most functional applications that real people are actually using.
I think the only one that competes is TRON, but it's ALL gambling.
Who cares about blockchain and crypto! Watch me get shot for saying that.
The bigger picture here is the fact we do and will eventually have the entertainment industry (and people are probably sick of hearing @nonameslefttouse say "entertainment industry") wrapped around our finger.
If only people could see the potential! (and there's the second bullet)
Oh I am almost with you. 2.5 billion social media users a DAY. A DAY. And we are trying to deliver to the crypto kids who are mostly already married to a project.
That is part of the reason I have so little hope. As bitcoin rises and gets attention a lot of people just regular people are going to be looking for a way to get in, a place to learn, in addition as you mention, those who have been recently deplatformed..
Here we are yanking our own chain in the form of playing with math. It's killing me. :)
Billions of people also read, listen to music, watch videos. Content producers always asking for donations now. Put the puzzle pieces together. Who cares about math! "Hi there, you spend thousands on entertainment, yearly. Even Youtube now wants you to subscribe. Many independent content producers ask you for your donations. What if I told you you'd never have to throw your money away again?" STEEM has the potential to literally undercut the ENTIRE entertainment industry. From the one who can gather attention from posting pics of lunch, all the way up to the biggest pop star in the music industry, all a consumer has to do with their money is invest now. They get a return. They can cancel at any time. The money is never spent, and the producers can still make bank. Will I say HOW? No! That's a new post or two in itself.
Delegate 1 million steempower to 10 of those entertainers that have lots of followers...
Yeah... I am serious...
That would be a game changer...
Delegate? All that is is recycling the current situation. Delegation is one of the worst things to happen to this place. You want NEW money coming in, not handouts.
crypto never dies
I came nowhere close to saying it will die.
How much steem is our reward-pool? After HF21? Divide that number by our active users. :)
Ohh and and don't forget to multiply that number with a steem price around 0.35 cents.
Are you serious, we ARE the entertainment industry.

Do you understand the decimal system?
Ten fingers on two hands?
Now separate each finger at the joint. Use a knife. If you don't respond for awhile, I'll understand.
My excitement for Steem fluctuates not with but as bad as the crypto markets :D
My excitement has todo with you. I don't care about steem or the crypto markets.

This latest update to Dtube get's me a bit inspired. They've come up with really creative solutions for making onboarding easier as well as their video uploading problem, as well as the 1 week rewards issue.
There's still just such a huge learning curve here. I think the only quick solution would be 2017'ish altcoin ralley, so that people FOMO into Steem, and there are stupid payouts again. Once they're here, hopefully we could do a better job at retaining them.
Other than that, it's probably going to be a slow climb T_T
“It’s the hope that kills you”: a football cliche! It might be unrealistic but having no expectations or hopes could be better as dreams will not be destroyed in a cruel outcome!

Steem and Steemit have the potential to recover. However from what I have seen over the last two years I don't have high hopes. If they did a solid job on SMT and had a number of platforms lined up for it on launch day that could bring steem back. I don't see to much else besides that happening to recover steem at the moment.

What about this statement from the recent post from @steemitblog
I mean unless people think the masses will choose Libra stablecoin over Bitcoin.. Or are still holding on to their cryptokitties hoping Eth blockchain scales.. I mean the ability to transfer value instantly with no fees to user-friendly address... Sounds like a next gen (3rd gen) blockchain to me IMO.
yeah, who's going to hear about it and where?
How did everyone hear about Facebook.. Their friends.

Why else would FB copy STEEM's logo.. 🤔
Well I applaud your optimism
Transfer Value? Pass that bong to me, Bro...
