Facebook Killer Application Idea - The Networker

in #busy5 years ago (edited)

IDEA - Probably worth what I am charging you for it! :)

Are you tired of logging on to Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter to keep up with your social media?

These companies are selling your data, marketing you to corporations and compromising your privacy and online security.

It's hard to break away from these sites, when all of our family, friends, networks, and colleagues are there.

Use our new social application: The Networker

The Networker allows you to sign in to one site and it collects your feed for Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and pulls your feeds into one convenient decentralized app for viewing. Keep up with all the interesting news from without having your data farmed, viewing unnecessary advertisements and eliminate unwanted clutter, while keeping your privacy safe and secure.

How it works

The first time you log in to The Networker, you tell it who and what you want to follow from the primary social media sites. Our developers have set up powerful software that will check for important posts within your Network on all platforms and copy them into one location for you to view. When you see something you would like to engage with you can either click a link to the source or invite your friend to the Networker. It's a one-stop shop for all of your networking needs both personal and professional.

small print lots of it.

Okay here is the problem though... We don't have this app yet, but someone should make it. :) Ideas are free, building them isn't! :)

Could such an app go out and screen scrape public posts from the users you want to follow?
Or could you enter your passwords once and behind the scenes it logs in once a day and grabs the most popular posts from your friends and family?
Just brainstorming how we can keep up with our social media in one place and give as little traffic as possible to the Corporations behind these apps.

Do you think it could be done? I know it isn't the perfect app for a blockchain. But it appeals to the same crowd. I always think it is funny when I hear people say... That project doesn't need a blockchain. You don't build it because of technical needs, you build it because it appeals to the same crowd.

Traffic is nearly always a consideration with brick and mortar stores why would it be different here.

@whatsup,
Now again a problem, how could this DAPP make a revenue? But I also like the idea behind! Hoe someone will copycat this idea and build the DAPP and pay you a cut of revenue!

Cheers~

I logged into Fakebook once back in 2016 and I was tired of it so I didn't go back...

Yeah, it can be done to a certain level. Major social networks have their REST APIs which can be used for this purpose with some limitations.

Probably there is some apps like this. I know for sure that there are apps for marketers with features like you described. They use those apps to run campaigns from one central point.

I think those tools are mainly for pushing content to social media sites, not pulling content from them. I could be wrong. A few popular ones are Buffer and Hootsuite.

You can pull as well as push.

I've thought about this more than a few times. It's technically possible...but perhaps some of the sites might not like it...so you might have to work around them.

I often think this is what we need right here on Steem from a portal perspective. One site to take you to different Dapps but all connected together without having to log in everytime even though Keychain has made it much easier!

The app sounds like an RSS feed reader. If only the mainstream sites had better RSS support... Wordpress and Medium do support RSS. The other guys try really hard to maximize the time your eyeballs are on their app, because your attention is their profit. And RSS goes against the attention monetization goals.

Shameless plug, I maintain a little tool called SteemRSS which extends STEEM blogs and feeds to RSS format. Http://SteemRSS.com

Oh dang, this is cool! I didn’t even know there was an RSS plug-in for pulling Steem content! Is there a GitHub repo for this?

Yep, here it is: https://github.com/SteemRSS/SteemRSS

Issue reports and pull requests welcome.

RSS is simply XML. HTML in it's modern form is a type of XML. You can scrape any site and transform it into RSS if you want, or just read it in with the same libraries that programmers use to deal with RSS, since most of them deal with HTML as well.

If more people actually used RSS, then they would probably have RSS feeds. But they don't. It's a geek thing. Most people don't know about it. It never really caught on, due to not many knowing what it was or how to use it, which in turn made less build in support into their sites, which ensured that it wouldn't catch on. Catch 22.

But yes, you can't really put banner ads on someone's reader when you don't control the reader. But you can insert ads in like they're entries. Or you can replace links with ones that go through your site and put ads on the top. They'd come up with ways to monetize it if more people used it.

I haven’t tried doing scraping of social media, but I would guess they use some kind of obfuscation of the HTML tags to make it nontrivial.

RSS is a great tool for content marketers because you can hook it up to IFTTT, mailchimp, and similar tools.
