What Steem Really Needs: A Browser
We are seeing amazing progress with the Steem ecosystem. What is being developed is shooting Steem up the DApp ranking charts. Steem has half the applications in the top 10 and 10 in the top 20 according to stateofthedapps.com.
Please bear in mind, I am not a programmer so I do not know the technical details behind this. Perhaps some of the more knowledgeable ones on here could comment.
Looking at the overall rankings, I see the 4th spot held by BAT. This the application tied to the Brave browser.
If I am not mistaken, the individual behind Mozilla is also behind the Brave browser. While I am for a project like this, I feel that it is something we can do also.
How about the idea of creating a Steem browser? Talk about a great piece to promote Steem.
Whether we are looking at desktop or mobile, the browser world is still very large. It is only going to grow over the next decade as billions more sign onto the web.
To me, this seems like an ideal fit for Steem. A team could create a browser called "Steem" which would promote the name and brand awareness. We also could see a lot of crypto functionality built right into it. Opera recently made headlines with the implementation of crypto into that browser. Imagine having the ability to tie into one's Steem account directly from the web browser.
I imagine that applications could then create different plug ins which would foster more use. Like most DApps, this could be decentralized and open to provide the security to the users that are required.
Again, I am not a programmer but, to me, this seems like a fascinating idea. Perhaps building browsers is highly complicated. Nevertheless, all the applications we have are interfaces to the blockchain, yet they do not access the Internet. How amazing would it be to be able to interact with the Web using the Steem browser?
Someone could then build an application that allows people to view advertisements. For these to get through, they are opt in requiring permission from the user. Of course, to do so, there would need to be incentive, i.e. a token payment. The application could create a token that is sold to companies who are interested in getting people to view their ads.
Just a few ideas that popped into my head.
What are your thoughts on this?

Of course it will be nice to have our own browser. But creating a browser is a lot of effort
I think instead of reinventing the wheel, we should partner with Brave + BAT to make their BAT rewarding mechanism work on Steem interfaces

Very interesting idea!
I have been thinking the same thing. Add email and it becomes the full package. Take the Brave Ad model as well where people get paid Steem to watch ads. Plugins would be dapps that offered SMTS/Steem20 tokens for doing various things. Would be a great idea.
Thanks @theycallmedan.
It really is something that could tie it all together. I just wonder how technically feasible it is.
Could be a centralize point of Steem focus.
@fyrstikken has been talking about this on Steemspeak.com discord for a while, how he coudl start with maybe Esteem browser and maybe add email and how steem needs to have its own internet etc, its very big thinking and would really open steem up to a whole new world of possibilities on the level fo a new world wide web, like new protocals for the entire internet
and @lanmower was talking about using "Public Infrastructure" Like Torrents for example that the public can seed, to host a front end, maybe not the fastest site, but it could allow you to bring up simple text and image based posts with comments and always have a way to use the steem blockchain, i mean as long as the blockchain is up, there should REALLy be a way to give someone a simple text based experience, I mean, I know if steemit.com si down you can still use the esteem app but that still has servers, and I know what I said might not be THAT easy but honestly as long as you didnt mind something being VERY slow I dont see why we couldnt have a decentralzied web torrent style front end that no one had to pay to host...
The thing with Brave is their core product is a browser that blocks ads and lets you reward content owners. It is completely different from that of Steem which has positioned itself as a social blockchain. I use Brave as my main browser now and it's great, if Steem did the same thing, we would just look like we're imitating Brave.
I fear if a Steem browser did exist and it was not an official Steemit Inc endeavour, it would fall behind quickly. Web browsers are serious business, even if you fork Chromium, you have to keep it updated every time a vulnerability or bug is discovered in the browser, it would be a full-time effort. Brave can do it because the web browser is their main product like Steemit is Steemit Inc's main product.
I would love to see non-game applications of Steem to push it forward. Right now, Steem looks like a gambling blockchain (mostly dice games). We have a couple of non-dice games, but not many practical applications of the Steem blockchain which is what I would really love to see (I am doing my part).
A user friendly block explorer seems a better option then a full browser. We don't need a new web browser, but a more full featured (and unified) web interface to interact with steem projects directly.

Thank you so much for participating in the Partiko Delegation Plan Round 1! We really appreciate your support! As part of the delegation benefits, we just gave you a 3.00% upvote! Together, let’s change the world!
Could help with censorship resistant as well!
Earn Steem just by using a browser?
Yes, please!!!😁😁😁

That is my thinking....although have to do earn STEEM to watch ads or something companies are willing to pay for.
As long as it’s user friendly and it pays out Steem, I’m in!

Would be nice id dclick could make this happen. Browser is run off of chromes coding as far as I know which is why the chrome browser extenions work on brave.
I doubt its possible, but would be incredible to see Steem have a bowser that competes with brave.

Brave runs based Chromium which also used by Chrome

That would be a door opener for #steem and a way to make steem mainstream.
So much can be done through this blockchain.
Keep on postin
