Steemit Might Be Getting It: Eli and Ned On S.O.S.steemCreated with Sketch.

in #busy6 years ago

Yesteryday, @elipowell and @ned were on the State of Steem with @pennsif. This was the first time they appeared together publicly on a show like that, at least to my knowledge.

I must say, there could be some grounds for optimism. We all are most likely going to be leery of anything said until proven otherwise. It is well known that Steemit Inc is big on promises yet slow on delivery.

That said, Eli is pretty much taking over the day-to-day operations of Steemit Inc. Ned moved to a position where he is now going to be working on the longer term vision of Steemit, including the @steemalliance. It would seem to me this is better suited for Ned.

I cannot say what caused the shift in Steemit Inc. Was it the fact they woke up and looked at the financials only to realize they were experiencing a cash burn (STEEM burn) which would put them under? Could it have been the threat to fork them out? Whatever the reasoning, the last few releases seem to offer some hope that they are getting it.

All along, many of us felt that the Steem blockchain has enormous potential. We still have a ton of barriers to overcome but Steemit Inc being aligned with the community is helpful. Of course, Steemit is still a centralized entity that is going to look after their own interests first. Nevertheless, if they are more open to input in coding from the community, that will be a major step.

We will see if they are open to that or if they try to keep all the eggs in their basket.

I will say that there is so many things that a lot of us do not understand or see as the potential with certain applications. For example, I was chatting with someone yesterday who is very familiar with the workings of Wordpress and a lot of the more advanced stuff there. Basically, he mentioned how the potential was with the Wordpress Hosting Companies which would completely change the model. Why get 1 person to use the application when you can get hundreds at a time?

There are dozens such examples going on behind the scenes. We are seeing businesses starting to evolve on this blockchain. All are in the start up phase which means they will experience what all start up go through. However, over time, breakthroughs happen and companies begin to take off. We ultimately are seeing a shift in the blockchain which makes it stronger.

In monitoring the Witness list, it is easy to see how the applications are becoming more powerful. They are the ones who are investing the major time and resources into this blockchain. They are also being rewarded for that by moving up the Witness list. Many penetrated the top 20 with an assortment spread through the top 50. These are the ones that are not going to jump shift because an obstacle appeared.

Each week, sometimes in spite of ourselves, we are seeing progress. Patience still remains key because it is not an overnight process. We are in unchartered waters. This is all new. I feel that patience will be rewarded since the potential is starting to be realized.

By the way, one of the complaints lodged against this blockchain is that the number of accounts that are not real or are dead is through the roof. Did you happen to catch the news about the 70 page report which was done about Facebook? It concluded that roughly half the accounts are fake. That is a total of about 1 billion users.

It is easy to have the view the "grass is always greener" while our lawn is charred soil. Fortunately, things are not as they always appear.

We could be witnessing the collapse of a company that was viewed by many as one of the most successful in the world.

And that my friends is called opportunity.

Each day, the Steem ecosystem is getting bigger and stronger. Perhaps now, Steemit Inc is open to listening to the community which will help this even more.

You are one of the most communicative person on steem(it) I know of! Always spot on and ready to post on recent news on the chain and thinking further into the future!

You would be the best spokesman for steemit! @elipowell hasn't responded to her post, which is three days old. For me a No go!

You would have my full acceptance being part of the communication team of steem, Inc.

Thank you fo rthe high praise @actifit-peter.

I am not sure I am suited for Texas though. LOL

The Austin/ hill country area of Texas is one of most beautiful areas our state.

Oh but then there's the suffocating humidity lol.

Most likely it was a resource credit problem lol

Thanks for the update, taskmaster4450. Now if Bitcoin would go back to $20,000 my world would be perfect. Oh well, a guy can dream, right?

I tell all kinds of creative people I'm friends with about Steemit. But,the perception is it's a pyramid scheme. So many people still know nothing about cryptos except the news tell them gangsters use them to buy drugs on the "darkweb"oooo scary... As if they don't use regular money for that lol But, it's their loss. A couple of Steemians have bought art from me. Glad to be along for the ride whatever happens!

I think you are seeing the result of a year long FUD campaign by the MSM. It worked. The average person is scared away from cryptocurrency because of the way the media portrayed it.

They will get into this game but it will be later after the "insiders" had a chance to buy in cheap. Fortunately, for those who are on here because they did not listen to the media, we will benefit also.

I've been telling people about Steem since July 2017 and nothing has changed. Mainstream people are fucking morons. Why blog on Blogger or Wordpress when you can do it on Steemit (or any other front end) or use the SteemPress WP plugin and earn cryptocurrency while at it? What total idiot would not welcome the extra earnings from that? Normos keep making the centralized platform owners rich and let them screw them over in ways all and sundry without taking the opportunity to use a Steem app instead - not even when a friend explains stuff to them in as much detail as necessary. Cryptocurrency scares the shit out of normal people. The depth of the hypnosis average people are under when going about their daily lives is something that I've been aware of at an intellectual level but seeing it up close and personal like this has been an utter shock to me. Never underestimate the POWER of social conditioning.

Most people just don't have the ability or will to question the established structures, which seems really backwards because people have the knowledge of how quickly things have been changing, they have even lived through those revolutionary periods like the mainstream adoption of Internet.

You are right. You'd think people understood and had internalized that established structures are transient because they are. I wouldn't be very surprised if some factor or combination of factors led to sudden interest in decentralized content delivery allowing anyone to earn crypto while blogging. Such a factor could be the steadily creeping up level of structural unemployment causing people to look for alternative ways to earn supplementary income. The shift in perception can be rapid.

That is true. They are conditioned to succumb to the fear completely. This is something that is part of all of our makeup. Some of us overcome it, most do not.

You are right, they stick with the mainstream screwing instead of pursuing something that might provide some freedom.

It is true that we all have that fear to one degree or another. But I have to say that I still can't help being dumbfounded by how it manifests in people. The business logic of Steem apps is ultimately precisely the same as that of centralized mainstream apps: the attention economy (advertising, paid promotion) coupled with the ability to use STEEM has an instant low-cost payment system. The ONLY difference is the fact that Steem works like a stake-based co-op. Normies still tremble in their boots. I've even seen that happen to intelligent people I've taken for people having an anarchistic streak. My experience has led to my taking some of them a lot less seriously than before.

It's also a bit complicated as a social network for people who don;t think of themselves as content creators. But hopefully more apps and the slow and steady method will mean great things long term

I have seen some changes in attitude of Ned some months back, he has been attending talk show publicly and he has been responding to the community. This I am happy of. I also agree that the new position for him is the one most suited for

I Never Worry about Any of this. I Leave all up to God..........

I really hope that steemit inc is getting and making good progress.

It feels as though at least things are headed in the right direction! The community is slowly coming together and providing their worth to actively engage to help govern and realized its decentralized potential. This path is exciting to experience and be a part of!

I am still reeling from the completely unexpected plot twist (at least to me) of @ned going from what seemed to be rather paranoid reaction to talk of forking out @steemit's ninjamined stake to delivering @steemalliance - that had been worked on months prior.

It is this present direction that strengthens my assessment that @ned isn't just in this for ducats, but has a vision. From my personal interactions with him I got little sense of this, but from his remarks in Korea last year, and now this foundation being birthed with him as midwife, I get a strong sense that he not only shares my vision of a platform that all social, political, and commercial entities can use at their sole option, and that people can only voluntarily use, but that he invented it.

I think Steem has become a tool for not only liquid democracy, but commerce, and sharing cat pics with your gran. I am sure it will change the world.

Thanks!
