@steemhunt Improving Their Scoring System

Anyone who reads my articles knows I am a huge fan of the @steemhunt team and what they are developing. It is one of the leading DApps on this blockchain simply because they are creative and innovative in their approach.

In short, this application is constantly seeking to move forward in ways that benefit not only it but the entire ecosystem.

They announced the implementation of a new scoring system. A large part of this is that voting weight is going to depend on how many Hunt a user has. It is then tied to how active one is on the @steemhunt platform which creates the new score.

In reading over their announcement, we see their goals for the scoring system laid out clearly.

Represent the user’s daily dedication within the community.

Motivate users to gain a higher stake.

Minimise the disparity between highly influential and normal users in a dynamic way.

The last one is something that many complain about Steem and a lot of other blockchains. We often see tokens in the hands of a few meaning those with the coins end up having all the power. Under this system, we see a way that not only is the accumulation of tokens desirable but people also gain from their activity.

Another thing that jumped out at me is the importance of Hunt coins. In the past I wrote about the decision all Steemians will have to make when SMTs go live. Does one use the SMT acquired to power up via the conversion to STEEM? This move answers the question. We are now seeing the potential that the Hunt token could be as preferred, if not more, than STEEM.

User Metrics

This is nothing more than the Hunt Power Score multiplied by the Contribution Score.

Hunt Power Score is the amount of Hunt on is holding. Increasing one's Hunt will raise the Hunt Power Score.

The Contribution Score is created to reflect one's activity on the Hunt platform. There are a variety of factors which go into this. It is all in keeping with the post, comment, and upvote basis of the Steem blockchain. The more this activity is done along with the quality of the content, the better one's Contribution Score will be.

We cannot underestimate the value of the applications on the Steem blockchain. This is what is going to separate Steem from the rest of the blockchains. People are not going to care what blockchain something is located upon. Instead, it is what the application does and the interest it holds for them that will be the decision maker. Few people care what network they are on with Web 2.0; I do not see this changing as Web 3.0 evolves.

The innovation out of the Steemhunt development team continues to impress me. I do not see any reason why this will not be one of the leading applications on the Steem blockchain when SMTs go live in the Spring. With each announcement, I only see improvement in what they are trying to accomplish.

Ultimately, the evolution of the blockchain world, and as such, cyrptocurrency, is going to lie in how much developers think about users. Under the existing model, the applications carries all the value. With the introduction of this new paradigm, we are seeing that lessened while the protocol carries more weight. Thus, it is very comforting to see a development team that is focusing their attention upon the user experience.

If nothing else, this switch should motivate users of @steemhunt to get more active. They want users to be rewarded for their contribution to their platform.

This bodes well for the entire Steem ecosystem.
