Misdirection Island, one of the South Shetland Islands, in the Drake Passage, off the Antarctic Peninsula. It is a depressed spring of gushing lava, the pit of which, around 10 miles (16 km) in measurement, frames outstanding amongst other safe havens in the Antarctic.
The harbor, known as Port Foster, has been the focal port of passage for British claims in the Antarctic since 1910. The island has additionally filled in as a whaling and seal-chasing station from 1906 to 1931 and, amid World War II, as a British army installation.
