The latest Addiction in town

This is really not the latest addiction based on series of events that took place here in Nigeria few days back. But I think we should consider its effect and how to curb it.

Let me start with a story. Few days ago, I took a bike (motorcycle). I just discovered that the guy honks every second, even when he wanted to avoid potholes, he will press the horn. I was so frustrated to ask whether he was doing it deliberately or by mistake.

He stopped for a while. After like another two minutes he started again, then I discovered that it was a mere reflex action. His mind has been so programmed that whether he needs to or most times not, he'll press that small button that'll make unnecessary noise.

What could be the cause?

Many reasons might be responsible for this addiction that seems uncontrollable

• Frustration
Many Nigerians are frustrated and are just looking for any avenue to burn the steam. No wonder, any small mistake by either other riders or drivers, they begin to abuse or even fight them. If that now results to any serious conflicts, the cause will be so annoying.

Impatience
As much as they know they are not the only road user, there's bound to be series of heavy traffic, depending on the area, they are driving in. Most times when these people get to the road, they tend to embarrass the other road users by incessantly hooting.

Do you know It is against the law to use your horn unnecessarily, in some countries?.In fact one can be fined up to £300 in the UK, if you dare contest that and then lose the case, £1000 is your new fine.

Things to do

• Stabilize Yourself
One of the way forwards is just to be cool and stabilize oneself. Venting ones anger and frustration on strangers that do not know what one is passing through is not going to help anybody's situation. More frustration is what you'll get.
Nobody's life is perfect, everyone is hiding his or her challenges and hoping for a better tomorrow.

•Leave early

As much as you want to multitask, you can't be in two places at the same time. Plan your movements and space your appointments.

In this part of the world, we say African time, it's just an excuse to be late. Some might be late to their wedding, if care is not taken.😊😊😊
Seriously? Leave your home or office early. There's bound to be traffic on the road.

Using of the horn is not really bad when used appropriately. You can use it when the vehicle close to yours is posing danger and you want to warn the driver. This tool is not meant to alert others, except on some extreme cases like kidnapping and related cases.
Anything or tool we can't really control but is controlling us will result to addiction.
