Countryside Lifestyle Photography: Slow life by the river, ชีวิตช้าๆที่ริมแม่นํ้า

This is my entry for #thaiphotocontest35 on countryside lifestyle photography. Life by the river can be quite boring as the river is the same and the trees are standing green while there is no excitement except when someone occasionally encounters a big snake. Then the yelling sound would go quite a distance!

The village is quite compact and people have been living here for hundreds of years through several generations. These villagers are somehow related to each other so there is no way to keep any secrets among themselves. So, no one in the village can be a stranger. This makes it easy to connect with local villagers in case one needs specific help with some skilled workers. The plus side is that one can have fresh fish delivered by fisherman’s wife as they all know who lives where!

Routine work is the usual digging the soil, watering vegetables and plants, weeding and planting new trees. Then, we would be looking for ripe mangos, tomatoes or chili, picking local herbs and salad as side dishes, gathering banana leaves for wrapping sticky rice. The inside of the young banana stem is quite a favourite cooking ingredients. Sometimes we would find bee hives in the bamboo clusters. That’s when I realized that natural honey taste was really sublime! In the evening, people would go for walks along the river while lots of children would be playing under the watchful eyes of the adults. Elderly people preferred to cycle several rounds along the river front. I could hear their laughters and chatters along the way. It has become my routine to watch for changes in the level of the river and waiting for the sunset.

ชีวิตที่บ้านสวนค่อนข้างจำเจ เรียบง่าย ภาระกิจเดิมๆ เช่น ขุดดิน ถางหญ้า เก็บผัก รดนํ้าต้นไม้และแปลงผัก ปลูกต้นไม้ใหม่ ตัดใบกล้วยเพื่อไปให้คนทำขนม มองหาอาหารประจำวัน โดยหาเหยือกกล้วยอ่อนไปทำกับข้าว หาหน่อไม้ในสวน เก็บผักหวานหรือผักเคียง ถ้าโชคดีเราก็จะเจอรังผึ้ง ทำให้ได้รู้ว่านํ้าผึ้งแท้ที่บริสุทธิ์ มีรสหอมหวานอย่างไม่น่าเชื่อ พอตกเย็นชาวบ้านก็ไปเดินเล่นออกกำลังกายที่ริมแม่นํ้า เด็กๆในหมู่บ้านจะมารวมตัวกันเล่นเกมส์ และถีบจักรยานกัน. คนสูงอายุจะพากันถีบจักรยานไปตามถนนสามสี่รอบ เสียงหัวเราะและเสียงคุยลอยมากับสายลม เราชอบไปเดินดูระดับนํ้าในแม่นํ้าว่า นํ้าลดหรือเพิ่มในแต่ละวัน เป็นการสะท้อนว่าทางจีนมีการเปิดปิดเขื่อน หรือปล่อยน้ำมามากเพียงใด พวกชาวประมงปวดหัวแน่ๆถ้านํ้าขึ้นวันละสามสี่เมตร เราก็เดินเล่นรอดูพระอาทิตย์ตก แล้วค่อยกลับบ้านไปเล่นกับพวกแมว
