A Small Step In Switzerland, One Giant Leap For Cryptocurrencies
Switzerland's largest online retailer- The Digitec Galaxus Group- announced that it will allow customers to make payments using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ether and Litecoin today, CCN reported.
According to an announcement by the company, Danish startup Coinify will process purchases in excess of 200 Swiss Francs by making real-time conversions of cryptocurrencies to fiat currency.
CCN revealed that the brutal 2018 crypto bear market caused three online merchants- Expedia, Reddit and Stripe- to stop offering Bitcoin as a payment option.
As such, the decision by The Digitec Galaxus Group to allow payments via cryptocurrencies can be seen as a small but significant step for the crypto market, considering that Switzerland is one of the major financial centres in the world.
Hopefully, it will usher in the era of mass adoption for cryptocurrencies in the not too distant future.
