The hard goal - Short story
Maria climbed out of the shower and looked at herself in the mirror. She used her towel to wipe the steam off the mirror to see herself more clearly. Her once reddish brown hair was no longer as shiny as it once was. Strands of grey could be seen everywhere, and she knew she had to do something about it. She moved closer to the mirror and looked at the wrinkles on her face. It looked like she had a permanent frown on her face due to the last few years of stress taking it's toll. She wished she could get a facelift, but she couldn't afford it, and who would care.
She dropped the towel and moved away from the mirror so she could see her body in full length. Her biggest problem were her weight. Everything was sagging, and she knew that she desperately needed to start taking better care of herself, because she is putting her health at risk. She felt even more depressed when she looked down at her feet and could only see the tips of her toes sticking out.
She was losing control over her own body and there was nothing that she could do to stop this if she didn't start putting in the effort herself. Perhaps it was time to go and see a dietician.
She had tried so many yo-yo-diets over the last few years, and none of them worked. She lost some weight and then just gave up. Then she picked it all up again. Sometimes even more than she lost.
She was nearly 47 years old, and she knew it was a crucial time to change some habits. She had no drive in her to do this herself, and that was the main issue. Nobody really cared what she looked like. Her husband loved her and he didn't care about her weight although it did influence their love life. Her kids were no longer bothered as they lived their own lives, and as long as she provided for everyone including her parents, they did not support her.
Maria knew that she had to do this for herself, and even though no one else cared, she cared enough about herself, to change. She made a life changing decision right there in front of the mirror. She knew that it was going to take hard work and determination, but she knew she could do it.
She was going to take it one day at a time, and she knew she had the willpower to get her through this process. She knew there would be ups and downs, but if she didn't start now, it would be too late.
She has had enough failures to know what to watch out for, and she knew that eventually she would reach her goal.
It was just going to take time, but she knew now, that there was nothing holding her back anymore. She has made the decision on her own, and she was finally doing something for herself. She couldn't wait to see the end result!
-The end-
Wow! So amazing and beautiful to read. I found out, in the end I want it to continue. It speaks alot to me, from self-awareness to loving oneself. Building a strong mind and dedication to change, a short story filled with purpose and insights about life. Kudos.
good story, there is something in it, best regards :)
Why the story ends so fast, i would like to read more.
Anyway it is quite meaningful, it makes me to consider to cut down my weight again. LOL
I always give up very fast with lots of excuses.
Awwww. Resonates with me so deeply. No matter what our size, where we are in life loving ourselves and taking care of our well-being without putting ourselves down is so important. Compassion starts with the self.
Am on a journey of recovery myself, and each day is a step, doesn't matter how big or in what direction....it is a step.
Thank you for this lovely story.
