I am not sure who the brain child was that bred basset hounds to be hunting dogs but you are fired. Basset hounds are the laziest dogs in existence. Rosco here is a prime example of low effort. Just look at this majestic bastard running these deer out of the back yard today.

He wouldn’t know what to do if me met my dog! Jerry is a super hyper lab/ridgeback.... had it been Jerry chasing those deer he would have been gone howling through the bush for a good 20 mins at least!

he actually weights what he is suposed to. We just call him fat man because he looks so fat with all the lose skin and rolls that bassets have

He is actually really smart. He just plays the dumb part really well. I taught him commands with a series of clicks. That way my wife can't tell him what to do. lol . He is actually where he is supposed to be on weight he just looks fat because bassets have so much extra skin. He was 20 pounds underweight when we got him.

Hounds are rare and wonderful. Or at least wondrous. :)
I'm pretty sure if my Rhodesian Ridgeback sees a lion he will respond appropriately. Otherwise, he is really interested in digging for Prairie Dogs and smelling everything. But he's net good to have around, so I'll keep him.
For the record, Bassets are a pack dog, so as individuals maybe not so impressive with the hunting.

Yeah he is my buddy. We go everywhere togeather. He very rarely leaves my side. I take him up and get him ice cream cones and stuff. He is a resue dog that we got about 3 years ago. When we got him he was severly abused and about 20 pounds underweight. Now he leads a life of luxury. I love the little guy. He gets a car ride every night or he gets mad at me.
In Old England, the word "hound" was used to refer to all types of dogs.
