Wednesday Walk: Going Way Back
It has been a while since I have done a post for @tattoodjay's #wednesdaywalk initiative. I decided to dig way back and revisit a trip we took in 2010 to Disney World in Orlando, FL. @mrsbozz and I went with her parents, and her sisters family. It was amazing seeing everything through the eyes of a three and five year old.
I actually had a hard time finding photos to use that didn't have us front and center. For obvious privacy reasons I try to keep the photos of friends and family members to a minimum. Especially kids that aren't mine!
Although I had been to Disney World when I was a kid, it was awesome seeing how much things had changed (and some that didn't) nearly three decades later.
We had some pretty sweet accommodations at the Saratoga Springs resort in the form of this "treehouse". Although a short shuttle ride away from the park, Saratoga Springs is considered "on property". If I recall we were there about five days and we got the four park "hopper" pass. This basically allowed us to dedicate one day to each of the parks. We also got the meal pass which allowed us to eat pretty much anywhere we wanted for a fixed price.
The majority of our time was spent going to character meals and doing the princess type stuff that the girls wanted to do. I didn't really mind though. As I said, seeing everything through their eyes was phenomenal.
It was October when we went and Disney really does their best to go all out decorating for each of the holidays.
There was a section over by the Mad TeaCups ride that had these sayings on a wall. @mrsbozz really liked this one as an inspirational quote for her office at work, so we took a photo of it.
I wish fitness trackers would have been more of a thing back then. I couldn't tell you how many steps we probably got in those five days.
We spent our first day in the Magic Kingdom Park.
This is the park that you normally think about when you see and hear Disney World. It has the famous castle patterned after that one in Germany. Neuschwanstein Castle!
If I remember correctly it was very hot on this day and there were a ton of people there. We had to arrive early so my niece could do the princess tea party and we needed to stay late for the electric light parade down main street.
It was seriously a long day and I was basically spent by the end of it.
EPCOT is probably my favorite park and we just happened to be there during the International Wine and Food Festival. It was a really awesome experience, but to be honest there wasn't as much to do for the kids. I think they got a little bored and we didn't spend as much time there as I had hoped.
I did get some great macro shots of some flowers. Who knew back then there would be such a following for macro-photography in 2019...
Luckily, I did get to partake in some of the International Wine and Food Festival festivities! Hopefully this isn't the closest I will ever come to Germany!
We spent a day in the Disney's Hollywood Studios, but I didn't get very many great pictures from there. The last day we went to Disney's Animal Kingdom though...
I remember taking a safari ride here, so I am not sure that can really count as walking. The other days should have made up for this isolated indiscretion though and I feel confident I can still submit this for #wednesdaywalk.
It really was a fantastic trip. I think there is a lot of truth when people say that it is fun for all ages. I would actually be interested in coming back some day without kids, just to explore at a more reasonable pace.
I think every should make the trip here at least once in their life, just to say they have been. From what I have seen the Florida park seems much better than the California one though I have never been. Take a look at the square acreage comparison between the two sometime and I think you will see what I mean.
Be advised, it's not a cheap trip. Park admission seem to go up every year and if you want to try to visit all of them you need to multiply that by four. It is definitely something I would have to save up for if I wanted to go again.

Yes!!! Who hadn't been overwhelmed by the Disney Train? I think that is exactly the way Walt intended it.
Wonderful shots and I loved the electric parade and I really loved Epcot the best also. Perhaps because we are grown-ups?

What a cool post I think it was around that time that I took our grandkids and there parents there would it be funny if we happened to be in the same park in the same day
Visiting the Disney parks makes me realize how much energy the grandkids have and this post reminds me how exhausted I was by the end of the day but all worth it to see the excitement in the faces of the kids
And Disney does it all so well down to the small details like the manhole covers

Yes, it was a whole lot of fun to pick in a short amount of time. We all had a blast though. If you could see the pictures I didn't share, you would see it in all of our faces!
I am sure i have similar photos of us there, the joy in the faces is so evident

I know right! It makes me a little sad. I still feel young though, and that is what is important!

That is a really good post, showing various sites of the park .. I did not even know about the safari tours there .. the park seems mucv bigger then I imagined .. I especially like the electric parade ^^
The one in Florida is absolutely huge. They also have a Downtown area that is called something different now. I didn't get any photos from there. It was a short riverboat ride from our treehouse though!
Wow that's quite an elaborate of your trip @bozz! Looking at those picture am sure the kids totally loved it and by the time they are home they might be either still too hyped up or too exhausted from all the walking at this massive place.

It has been awhile since I have been to Disney World but I go to Disneyland at least every two years. It is a bold statement to say one is better than the other.... 😄
They are really quite different. Disneyworld of course has more parks but if you are comparing Disneyland to it’s equivalent (the Magic Kingdom)... I choose California. 😄 The Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland is amazing and I am fond of New Orleans Square more than Liberty Square. Additionally the drop on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in California is substantial. Florida not so much. Disney’s California Adventure is also a fun and unique add to the Disney scene in Cali.
Disneyworld is better for an all immersive experience. Four parks... massive property with ALL the hotels. The waterparks.... Florida you are doing at least 5 days to see it all. ☺️
But! No matter the location... all Disney Parks are awesome and what a wonderful Wednesday walk share!

You are probably right. It isn't fair to compare the two when I have only been to one. I was pretty disappointed that they removed the 20000 leagues under the sea ride. If I ever make it back to Califorina though I would rather visit some of the State parks as opposed to Disney.

Very cool! That is definitely a larger park than Disneyland. I expect your step count would have been phenomenal, as I know I got a ton from the smaller one when we went a couple years ago.
I bet! Even though we rode the shuttle quite a bit there was still a lot of walking.
