A Steem Keychain App Would Forever Change The Game.

in #busy5 years ago

A few hours ago I stumbled on @ackza's post in which he says he'll send some steem engines tokens to any anyone who'll help him pitch the idea of a mobile version to @ned, @elipowell and the whole steemit team. Except for @andrarchy of course, he's on his honeymoon now. Congrats btw.

Well I'm game for the challenge! Not just because of the free tokens but mostly because as a phone only user, I would greatly benefit from such a move and I'm sure there are a great deal out there that would feel the same.

Steem keychian is a Chrome/Brave and Mozilla extension created by @yabapamatt, which allows steemians to login into steem dapps faster and more securely than all previously available methods.

And so far, us phone users are pretty much still analog in a digital World, having to worry about carrying our keys everywhere. Which is not practical, sexy, and it might foster paranoia at times, with how some people like hovering over someone when they're using their phones. Smh

Why I think a steem keychain app would be beneficial to steem:

  • it would reduce the frustration of the newly onboarded steemians by reducing what they have to learn at once, specially if they are crypto newbs. It can already be overwhelming with the SPs, RCs, SPS, etc With less frustrated new users we could increase user retention.

  • These days a phone can do almost all you need in a computer. People have become used to that and they would expect the steem blockchain to offer the same conveniences if not more.

  • Phones are more well, mobile, and inspiration, the need to engage, or to needlessly scroll down one's feed can hit at any time. Good dapps paired with steem keychain would no doubt boost user activity and possibly increase the retention rate.

  • You can't always carry your laptop when you're doing some promo-steem now can you? You can always carry your phone though. With keychain you could just go about your day without worrying about accessing your keys in public, getting your phone stolen with your keys in some folder, etc

  • Phones keep getting cheaper and cheaper (faster than computers are anyway), and in my opinion if we want to attract the masses and people from the so called third World, easy to use mobile apps are key, therefore a steem keychain app is imperative.

I have read that @yabapamatt and his team are trying to implement a steemmonsters app, which is a brilliant idea imo. And seeing how much he's contributed to the steem blockchain thus far, I'm sure he could do wonders with a keychain mobile app if he was given the needed resources.

This was a quickly written post and I'm sure there are plenty more ways in which a steem keychain app could benefit our blockchain. If you can think of more feel free to drop them in the comment section. For now I gotta go for a cold one, or 6, so until next time;

PEACE!!

Hehehe cheers for the free publicity, I also hope the steemit team will see and that they'll do something about the mobile keychain. kind of highly doubt it but sweet dreams are made of this so u never know. But wait, does that sentence make sense? Who gives a shit, I'm just greatful I remembered to eat a lot otherwise I'd be on the massivest hangover. It was a fun night tho :)

I've said before that for the average user the various keys would be reason enough for most new people to steer clear. I know that initially when I got involved years ago I was like "TF is all this?" when presented with 4 massively long "passwords"...

Now that I am involved in the ecosystem I understand WHY this needs to be this way and agree with its implementation, but in this day and age I think many people would be very turned off by this process.

That and the fact that unless you are invited by a current user there is a fantastic chance that the admins will take AGES to actually get you an account :)

I've also come to understand why all those precautions with the keys are necessary but still, the only way to appeal to the masses is to have the whole process simplified.

there is a fantastic chance that the admins will take AGES to actually get you an account

A fantastic chance indeed, most of the people I miraculously managed to convince to join, just gave up waiting while still wating to be approved. And even the ones who got in bailed within a month partly due to how overly complicated systems are here.

But yeah, hopefully we'll soon find ways to catch people's attention and keep it. Otherwise we'll have to be content with those already here and figure the rest later..hopefully :)
