If you look @penguinpablo's steemit stats report about the day that steemit died, you will see that the posts went down by half and the comments went up slightly. He made the comment:
"I think it is proof that virtually all votes are done by voting-bots."

It is what it is at the moment. Maybe it's a good thing to have the voting strength centralized while Steem is still in BETA and there are some HFs planned. At least the witness consensus rate is good :)
At some point, the Steem distribution needs to dilute, else we're never going to have an attractive platform from the POV of a regular content reader/publisher.
No. The software HandBrake was in Beta for 13 years.
Gmail was in Beta for about 5 years. But then again, that's from Google, a rather unsuccesful startup. Very small, you probably haven't heard of them. They also go by the name Alphabet..
