To Bot, or not to BOT
Post #47
Hi Steemers,
Original @Boyerobert post here. I ran an experiment and after post # 42, decided not to use any bot assistance in creating revenue. Sorry about the below for some reason post # 42 & 43 got corrupted and the preview images are gone. Lets pause here a second to explain what a bot is. A Bot is an account that you transfer funds to where they take your link and promote it creating exposure which translates to upvotes, comments, new followers with the end result being revenue. You can read more on bots by searching for BOT, loads to keep you busy :-) My normal process is, create my blog, share it with about 5-10 Discord channels and 5-10 Facebook pages, followed up by using bots. I can honestly say its the only way I find you can make some coin. I also have 839 followers, where my blog also gets some organic exposure, doesn't seem to be working. During our last show on Whaleshares we touched this topic a little. I said I would create some blogs and not bot them as an experiment for the show, below are the results. Post # 42 was botted, and the rest were not. I'm curious to see that Post # 43 has 200 votes but $1.16 in revenue, then it just gets uglier after that. So "To Bot, or not to BOT", that is the question. Let me know what you think, please comment, upvote and even resteem if you live on the edge... :-) Do you have a favourite BOT? Please share the knowledge, knowledge is power and power is steem :-)
Thanks!!
Best regards,
@boyerobert

I know this is an old post, but I thought you might be interested in what I've been finding recently...
worthwhile upvoters (most of the ones I use are not bots, but actual real people...)
@treeplanter - I usually get a 0.53 upvote for 0.25 invest. Even when you figure for loss on the post, it is still a worthwhile venture (I'd have to grab my notes for an actual figure.) This one is also a charity who plants trees in Africa which I think is a great cause. Cool people like @josephsavage (who runs Steem Basic Income) have been known to participate in this one.
@thundercurator gives you one of the best returns. 0.36 upvote for 0.121 paid - though he's been a little bit behind recently - though he will refund you if your post is too old by the time he gets to it.
@zenbot is a relatively new one (and currently resting, unfortunately.) I've been getting a 1.14 upvote for 0.5 invested. Again a good and healthy return.
@minnowbooster is another one I do, but I think it might only be profitable once you've been accepted into their community. I get around 0.46 for a 0.25 invest.
There are a couple more I want to test before I do my own post on them. I read some articles and talked to a friend who also experiments with upvoters before trying them.
Several benefits, I see, for using upvoters.
it makes your account look more viable to other people. i.e. people are often more willing to upvote if they see a decent curation possibility.
it turns more of my SBD directly into Steem Power - which helps me enormously.
and yes, it actually does seem to pay out a bit - and it's a bit of fun as well.
Anyway, those are some of my opinions formed by playing a bit. I was a bit of a purist at the beginning, but it wasn't getting me very far on the financial side of it, so I decided that a few upvoters run by really good people could be a good thing. @zenbot is run by @kaliju who is a really awesome Steemian from everything I've seen.
Thanks for the names, I will try them out.🙂
I just started in April 2018 and I noticed that the resteem services netted me a rapid increase in follower numbers, but they were a loss in terms of Steem spent for Steem received, so I looked for something else. 🤔
I found three people who I call vote sellers for lack of another name, and they have netted me good profits. I found two who give me profitable upvotes and resteem my posts, so I use them for every post. 🙂
I also agree with you, that now I have a few dollars reward on every post right away other upvotes are starting to come out of the woodwork. I think this is an under appreciated point that you have made. It magnifies hopefully the effect of the vote resellers. 🤔
I intend to upvote your comment, but please excuse the small voting power, I have already exceeded ten votes today, but wanted to break my rule to repay you for the names.
Thanks 👍👏👏
P.S.
I just realized that I can tell three friends whom I recruited to Steemit about this comment, so they can get those names from your comment and reward you. Their new, so kinda small, but we are appreciative nonetheless. 🙂
P.PS.
I can send you my names if you wish.
Thanks
You are thoughtful, and that's always appreciated.
I tried two of the cheaper resteemers and they netted me nothing at all, so I've not tried those again. I agree that most upvoters and paid services are a waste of money. That's why I've been sharing those that do help. I did try the one called smartmarket - It gave me like 20 x 0.02 SBD votes for 0.25, so I won't be doing that one again.
And remember that numbers aren't everything. I've had a rash of followers recently, but when they're not real people, it doesn't really matter.
Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the info, @shortsegments got me into Steemit and also told me to check out this post and your comments for leads on vote sellers and to reinforce my understanding of what adds value to my account. Its always great to tap into someone else’s experiences on this platform. It’s 7 days so no upvote here, but I will upvote your comment below and thank you for your help.
Currently, the upvoters I buy into are:
@minnowbooster - any small amount - I'm sending them 0.5 SBD for a 0.96 upvote - approximately. It's instant, so it's good for that first boost of your article that can encourage others to upvote hoping for curation rewards. (I'm a member though, so I don't know how much that affects the return on this one.)
@treeplanter - any small amount up to 0.25 which is what I'm doing right now for a 0.56 return! You're also helping to plant trees in Africa which is really cool. They do comment on your post, but it's a cool comment.
@thundercurator is another one I use, though he has been falling behind recently - but he refunds at that point, so it's still worth using. This one is ideal for those of us on a tight SBD budget. 0.12 (and he comments) or 0.121 (with no comment - so that's the one I use) for a 0.36 upvote - one of the best ones out there for the investment.
I hope that helps you, @lalai. :-)
Thanks for the tip.
Believe you can and you're halfway there.
Thank you, i’m Half way there now ;-)
Personally, I think the bidbots are detrimental to the long-term success of Steemit.
I know they seem like a quick and easy way to promote a post, or guarantee some level of payout, but at the end of the day, they break the fundamental social contract of steemit and turn it into a ponzi scheme.
Well said, when I started posting back in the beginning, I said this is for the birds.... 1cent 2cent.... nuts, then you bot and even that doesn’t always pay out as it should but better than 7 cents.
The next viable alternative is to create a blog on one of the many platforms available to you, and then build up an audience, and then monetize your content for that audience via ads, Patreon, or some other means.
So, Steemit may simplify aspects of the experience, but building an audience is still a crucial part that most content creators overlook. If you were to post this on a self-hosted website, or blog platform, you'd be looking at either a fraction of a cent from an ad platform or absolutely no value at all, regardless of how amazing your content may be.
Thanks for sharing and running this experiment. I wonder, if you would attract more traffic if you spent more time commenting and engaging with other members than other forms of promoting that you have tried. Anyways, thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
I will get cracking on part 3 of the experiment.... ;-)
Sad to see bots control steemit these days! Upvoted :)
Thank you Crystal, catch you Sunday night
This is not motivating at all... steemit isn’t suppose to depend on bot... great post buddy!
Air-🦅 brother, thank you, trust me working 1.5-2hrs for 7 cents is a little deflating... but I got you love to keep me high!!!! ;-)
