Eye on Artists: Steppenwolf
Steppenwolf's probably biggest hit is "Born to Be Wild" it is an iconic song of liberty and youth. The video is the opening credits to a dope film "Easy Rider" that discusses life and freedom and the repression of the ignorant who hold back society.
"Don't Step non Grass Sam" discusses people not stepping on grass, or perhaps there might be a subliminal message if you look closer.
"The Pusher" is another cool song from them that discusses the amoral type dealer, pusher who slangs contraband for pecuniary gain that doesen't necessarily care about the welfare of their clients, who might be using just to escape their negative reality.
Probably my favorite song from Steppenwolf is "The Monster" it discusses our society run amok and how we can realize an alternative way to live. It discusses the monester of our system.
"Magic Carpet" is another hit that Steppewolf had. It discusses the metaphor of a magic carpet that one can use traverse the built environment. This song like "Born to Be Wild" is frequently played on classic rock music stations for a person to listen to while working or commuting or any other reason perhaps partying or doing yard work.

Born to be Wild - one of the best tracks in history - for me it's first heavy metal song ever. Also I really love Rock N' Roll Rebels - great guitar riff and keyboards there. Maybe their sound was as not heavy as before, but I like to come back to Steppenwolf's music, particularly in the summer time, when me and my friends have a lot of free time and we organise bonfires. ;)
