Huxley, A "Brave New World", and Decentralized Liberty

by @stevescoins

I remember thinking that Brave New World was very boring compared to 1984, with it's secret police, torture, and Winston Smith's desperate struggle to be free, at least in his own mind. In Brave New World, it was just a bunch of conformists who were also dopeheads against a freak who abandoned any sense of self-responsibility for his religious savagery...or so I remembered. B O R I N G! read more......

Once (Introducing a New Series)

by @boxcarblue

Once is something of a photographic memoir written by the filmmaker Wim Wenders.
It explores and recalls the minutia of various moments in his life that have, for whatever reason, stuck with him. Some of these moments he has captured in photographs, others seem to have captured him and left photographic-like impressions on his mind that he shares with the reader through poetic fragments and pieces of verse. read more......

Review: The Complacent Class by Tyler Cohen

by @brandonadams

Cohen’s book, in my opinion, does as good a job as any book I have read in spelling out exactly how the problems Waldman details manifest themselves in contemporary American society. The cultural story Cohen tells is one where a large segment of the elite (in Waldman’s context, those seeking additions to their wealth for insurance purposes) understand that the game as it’s being played today (manufactured asset price inflations, at a time when the distribution of assets is highly unequal) is highly inequitable and likely to end poorly, but, far from trying to rectify the situation, they do everything in their power to try to cement the status quo. read more......

Made in America - The story behind Walmart

by @sagres77

In this engaging autobiography, Walton explains how he built his mammoth corporation from a small five-and-dime store in Bentonville, Arkansas. The book doesn’t include much bad news, but you wouldn’t expect to find it here anyway.getAbstract recommends this colorful, entertaining book by America’s ultimate entrepreneur. He clearly was a determined steamroller as a businessman, but he was also a charmer – and that won’t surprise you either. read more......

Breaking-down "Zoo" by James Patterson, The Premise

by @jeffreymartin

"Zoo" is a thriller, which is what Patterson normally writes. A lot of the praise is obviously for marketing reasons, and Patterson was a marketer for most of his life, and his sales numbers show that he is very good at it. There are actually 5 sentences here that deal with the story, so I am going to look at those. read more......

which one would you prefer?

I like Brave New World, that's why I put it the first one. LOL

The way my article is summarized here is a little odd, just the beginning would probably work the best, but still, cool.

This is a really nice initiative. I look forward to seeing more.

Great idea @ygern. As a fellow book lover, I am following you and the authors mentioned in your post! So much to read, so little time ...

Hi. Thank you!
(Actually I do this to make myself reading! LOL)
