Halloween Horror Haul! Zorker's Bookshelf Groans In Agony!

in #books6 years ago

Hello fellow Steemians, and welcome to my very first legit brag post on the platform. This post is meant to serve no purpose except to expose all of you to the horde of new titles I've acquired for my Horror library. I cannot promise reviews of any specific titles in the near future, but if you see something that you want me to read and write up, leave a shout-out in the comments.

Also note: I am absolutely not above a bit of bribery in exchange for forced labor. If you absolutely, positively must know my opinion on a title (either because it looks amazing and you are considering picking it up, or because it looks terrible and you want me to suffer), I'll make you a deal: for the price of either 1 share of @steembasicincome or 1 share of @incinboost (if you don't have shares in @incinboost already, go with SBI as IB isn't adding new members at this time), I will guarantee that particular title goes to the top of the reading pile and will receive a review as soon as possible. If you go this route, just provide proof of payment in the comments. Once I've seen it, I'll upvote your comment and set the book aside.

This offer is open until the post pays out, at which time I'll post an update with shout-outs and reading order though I seriously doubt anybody will be crazy enough to do it. We'll see. @blewitt's weird enough to buy 'em all.

Make your selection based on the cover artwork and back cover blurb only, and here's to hoping I don't regret this. :D

Inhuman by John Russo
(1986, Pocket Books, 220 pages)

ONLY DEATH CAN STOP THEIR SAVAGE HUNGER. . .

At a secluded marriage counseling retreat in the Shenandoah Valley, six couples gather, unaware of the monstrous force about to strike. . .

Overhead, a jet hijacked by terrorists flies toward Cuba--until a desperate plan to stop them backfires. Hideously transformed, their asphyxiated brains shattered, the terrorists escape with only one basic instinct still alive--the ancient bestial need to hunt, to maul, to kill.

Now they are coming, stalking their prey--ready to attack, to crush, to revel in the frenzied spilling of hot human blood. Unarmed and alone, twelve men and women must call on every primitive instinct to survive the killing-list, the deadly onslaught, the horror that is. . .

INHUMAN!

Couples in crisis crossed with blood-thirsty terrorists turned troglodytes. For everybody wondering just how insane Horror was in the 80's, here's a hint.

Masters of Darkness anthology edited by Dennis Etchison
(1986, Tor Books, 338 pages)

Horror has many faces, one more terrifying than the next.

Terror has many voices, each cutting frighteningly close to the bone.

MASTERS OF DARKNESS

ROBERT BLOCH
RAMSEY CAMPBELL
RICHARD MATHESON
KARL EDWARD WAGNER
CHELSEA QUINN YARBRO

Horror's master writers gathered to whisper true terror into an unsuspecting ear...

Despite what the back cover may lead one to believe, there are a total of fifteen short stories, by as many authors, which appear in this volume.

Evil Reincarnate by Leigh Clark
(1994, Tor Books, 374 pages)

Psychopaths are not new to Connie Stallman.

As a psychiatrist she's seen everything in her work with dangerous patients. But murderer and sexual psychopath Tod Jarrow is something else again.

As Jarrow's prison psychiatrist, Connie finds to her horror that she is inexplicably drawn to the seductive and enigmatic killer.

She soon realizes that she can communicate with him on a level so intimate and deep that it seems to be telepathic.

But how can she feel so close to a cold-blooded murderer?

I read and reviewed another one of Leigh Clark's novels early on in my Steemit career. To see what I thought of Carnivore, click on over here.

Breeding Ground by Sarah Pinborough
(2006, Leisure Books, 339 pages)

Life was good for Matt and Chloe. They were in love and looking forward to their new baby. But what Chloe gave birth to isn't a baby. It isn't even human. It's an entirely new species that uses humans only for food -- and as hosts for their young.

As Matt soon learns, though, he is not alone in his terror. Women all over town have begun to give birth to these hideous creatures, spidery nightmares that live to kill -- and feed.

As the infestation spreads and the countryside is reduced to a series of web-shrouded ghost towns, will the survivors find a way to fight back? Or is it only a matter of time before all of mankind is reduced to a...

BREEDING GROUND

I also own the sequel, Feeding Ground, which was published by Leisure in 2009, but for obvious reasons I'm not going to read it before I read the first book.

Night Warriors by Graham Masterton
(1987, Tor Books, 405 pages)

In California, a woman's dead body gives life to utterly foul offspring. She has become the first mother of the Nightspawn.

She will not be the last.

The Nightspawn will cover the earth.

Unless three ordinary people can tap the powers within them. Unless they can learn to be Night Warriors, pursuing unstoppable evil through the nightmares of the cruel and the sweet sleep of the most innocent.

The battle for humankind must be fought in dreams by...

NIGHT WARRIORS

Vampire Beat by Vincent Courtney
(1991, Pinnacle Books, 302 pages)

BLOOD FORCE

The streets of Miami are hot with sleaze and sin.

And nobody knows those streets better than homicide detective Christopher Blaze. Or so he thought...

As an undercover cop, it was his job to bust the creatures of the night -- not become one of them. But sometimes even the best cops turned and no one suspected, not their captains, not their girlfriends, not even their partners.

Now Chris Blaze is working the graveyard shift, hunting a centuries-old serial killer leaving behind a trail of beautiful young victims. For another vampire is stalking the hot Miami night, and this time Blaze has nothing to lose but his immortal soul!

Who am I kidding? You dong demons are going to vote this one no matter what.

There you have it, folks. Six new books in the library, six possibilities for you to vote on. Let's get it started, and see what happens. Bring it on, you ball thralls. Do your worst.
