“... a mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.” - Tyrion Lannister

Welcome to the second part of our list, where we name the most mysterious books in History

(You can find the first 5 books here: https://steemit.com/books/@maxjoy/5-most-mysterious-books-in-history)

Without further due, let's get into it:

6: The Beale Ciphers

This book is more a collection of ciphers than anything else.

Mr. Beale gave a box to a man in Virginia, he instructed that the box was only to be opened within 10 years and only if he did not returned.

And so it happened… Mr. Beale did not returned and the man opened the box a decade later. Inside was a series of ciphers that are supposed to lead to a treasure. Gold and jewels of infinite value.

To this day only one of the cyphers has been deciphered, and get this… to do so, the Declaration of Independence had to be used. À lá Nicolas Cage style…

7: The Prophecies of Nostradamus

This is the most famous book in our list.

In it Nostradamus predicted several world events.. such as the 9/11 attacks, the rise of Napoleon and Hitler and many other things, Centuries before they took place.

To this day, this book sparks controversy.

8: The Dead Sea Scrolls

This is a pretty famous one too.

From 1947 to 1956 and across 11 caves near the west bank of the Jordan river, the Dead Sea Scrolls where found.

This are the most ancient, old testaments, manuscripts that we know about. It has plenty of prophecies and other passages that a are not included in our current, modren day Bible.

And it also has other information such as treasure maps.

9: The Liber Linteus

This book is one of a kind. Yes all the books on this list are, but this one, does have a few peculiarities.

It’s a book about the Etruscans, a people who lived in modern day Italy before the romans.

It was written in linen, the only book that we know about, written in that material.

It is a small piece of writing with only 1200 words. Largely untranslated to this day, due to the lack of our understanding of the Etruscan language, however some believe it is a ritualistic calendar of some sort.

The Romans would have actually destroyed the text, if not for the way it was preserved. They used the linen to mummify a wife of an Egyptian taylor…

When the mummy was being transferred to a Museum, that’s when the writings where found.

10: The Voynich Manuscript

Last but certainly not least… we have the “The Voynich Manuscript”.

This is considered by many as the most puzzling book of all.

It is very old (not sure how old), Anonymous (no one knows or speculates who the writer was) written in an unknown language (no linguists expert has even suggested a theory), it’s hand-written with text and strange drawings.

Totally confusing, some have speculated that it is actually a big puzzle…

Some people say that it belonged to John Dee (see book #1) but it is not for sure. Some say that it appeared in a Jesuit library in 1800’s, but again… it’s not for sure…

To this day (after world war code breakers and the likes had try it) there as not been one translation nor a clue on what the language is.

Yeah....

Here it is. Our top 10 on Mysterious Books.
