Valuable Personal Development Books I'm Currently Reading - Finding Personal Freedom

in #books8 years ago

Since I reinstated a reading habit, I tend to be in several books at once. Lately, I’ve been on a kick of really exceptional works. (Or is it that I am in a place where I’m more receptive than at previous times?) Anyway, I’d like to share them because I feel each of these has had a major impact on me. I hope you find value here as well.

Currently Reading:

    • The Art of Learning So far this is a fascinating book. Part autobiography, part how-to-guide to develop the skills of learning. My jam!
    • Expert Secrets This book is a bit of hype. But if you can get over that, there are actually some very useful, specific action items that are great marketing strategies.
    • Reinvent Yourself I began describing this in my last book post so I won't go into it here. If you're interested in following along, this is the book to get as I'll be posting about it here weekly until I finish it.

Recently finished Reading and Still Reviewing Notes:

    • Choose Yourself This book has been a big deal for me. After I got back from Anarchapulco this year, I was determined to take action to gain more freedom in my life. This book inspired a lot of the work steps and habits I'm now practicing- including writing this blog. If you're feeling at all stuck - get this book.
    • Waking Up This book is a bit like sitting in a room with Sam Harris as he waxes philosophically about the brain and the effects of meditation. If you are into that kind of thing or a generally curious person, you'll like this book. I did. Though there are few actionable take-aways, especially if you already have a meditation practice. If you don't, read about mine here and see what you think.
    • How To Fail At Almost Everything And Still Win Big Scott Adams is entertaining if nothing else. He also has some interesting ways of tackling problems. A few years ago I began developing a system of Habits Not Goals. It gets to be a big subject but I'll be writing a lot more on this. I was surprised to find that I was not the only one thinking this way. Since then I've found that Scott Adams and James Altucher both utilize methods very similar to my approach (though a little less refined).

A Book From The Past That I Keep Handy For Review:

    • How I Found Freedom In An UnFree World I never miss an opportunity to recommend this book. It's out of print so the physical copies can fluctuate in price but you can pick up a digital copy easily. Just get it. It has been the most influential book on my personal growth out of anything I've ever read. And that's a lot. It's like a manual of self-ownership. You will get value out of this book.

Not a typical post for me, but I want to share some of the behind-the-scenes here at Live All Your Life. These books are representative of the things I'm working through in my life right now. They have each influenced some real change in me. Hopefully, you'll get something good from them as well.

***disclaimer: If you click on any image you will be taken to the Amazon.com page for the book through my affiliate portal. If you purchase one I think I get a few cents or something. I've never made a penny from Amazon but I've heard a rumor that it's possible. I don't really care one way the other. Just check these out from the library if you want. I just want to share the good stuff!
