Book Review: "Dragonfish" - Vu Tran
Hi Steemians!
Today I wanted to review another thriller I read recently: "Dragonfish" by Vu Tran.
Isn't the cover of this edition absolutely gorgeous?!
I know I just called this book a thriller, because that's what it was sold as to me, but I quickly realized that it didn't exactly match what I had expected of it.
The story follows a middle-aged Detective called Robert, whose Vietnamese ex-wife called Suzy, or Hong, has recently disappeared. Her new husband, the Vietnamese gangster Sonny enlists Robert's help to track her down. Through following her trail, Robert uncovers his ex-wife's secrets and starts seeing her in a completely different light.
Personally, I did quite enjoy myself while reading this book. I liked the short glimpses into Vietnamese culture that we got and also felt like the story just flowed nicely.
My main gripe with this book was Hong/Suzy. She's an incredibly unlikeable character. Actually, pretty much all of the characters could be placed into that category. Furthermore, I felt like the story was kind of predictable and there were no significant twists or turns to speak of.
I guess I would just have liked this book to pack a bit more of a punch. The ending also left quite a few questions unanswered, which makes for a bit of an unsatisfying reading experience.
Overall: 3/5 stars from me!
LET ME KNOW: Have you read this book? What did you make of it?
As always,
Happy reading!

I'm not familiar with the author, but I'm interested to learn about different cultures. 3/5 isn't bad, seems like it might be worth picking up for the glimpses into Vietnamese life alone. :)
Hope you do a review of it yourself if you end up reading it :)
nyc story and the pictures are really effective
Haven't heard of this book prior, but the Vietnamese culture has me interested!
