RE: Kingkiller Chronicles Podcast

Ah I misread! Well regardless, any fantasy/sci-fi/historical-fiction posts you make will get an automatic upvote from me haha. I'm re-reading a sci fi series right now by Peter Hamilton called the "NIght's Dawn" trilogy. If you haven't read it, check it out! Even if you aren't into Sci Fi, it's incredibly imaginative.

Hmmm never heard of the gentleman bastard series. I'll have to look that up.

Sort:

If you like super long series (and you did make it through wheel of time) I would check out the Malazan book of the fallen series.

Outside of that you cant go wrong with anything by Brandon Sanderson, hes the guy who finished the last few books of Wheel of Time. His mistborn trilogy is really good(and finished). Theres also the First law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie or the farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb that I really enjoyed.

LOVED Malazan!! Actually, I've read it three times. The first time, it was a little tough to get into and confusing but each re-read I enjoy it more and more. You really pick up on details you missed the first time around. I haven't read all of the ICE series (only the Return of Crimson Guard) but I might in the future. The writing was a little too different for me.

Yeah I've read Brandon Sanderson's "Stormlight Archive" and "Mistborn". I liked Stormlight Archive better but Mistborn was still a great read. I recall you recommending the First Law Trilogy. I read them all! It was darker than I expected!! Not much of a happy ending there. I still have yet to check out Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy though. Actually, I think I have read it. I just looked it up and recognize the names Chivalry, Regal, and Verity. I'll have to read it again because I forget the plot.

Seems like we have similar tastes. Another great series that I really enjoyed is called "Codex Alera" by Jim Butcher. Better yet, his "Dresden Files" series is incredible. If you have any other recommendations. Throw them my way!!

I just picked up codex alera to read when I finish my current to read list. Did you read the Malazan prequels? Its the path to ascendancy trilogy though only 2 of the 3 are out. Interesting getting the background information on how Dancer and Kellenved came together.

Other series I liked- The farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb, its the first in like 4 connected series. The broken empire trilogy by Mark Lawrence was decent. If you want just a standalone novel Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay was really good.

Wow I didn't even know those existed. Hell yeah!!! I'd love to delve more into the Malazan universe. Though it looks like it's not written by Steven Erickson. I suppose I can give Esselmont one more go. The one downfall of fantasy series is you get so drawn into the universe that you feel a withdrawal when you're finished.

Okay awesome I haven't read those so I'll check them out. One last recommendation for you: The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny.
