Whether by virtue or experience, we each live by a set of self-made rules that encompass how we define ourselves and they serve as a guideline for our morals and actions. In Lee Child's "The Midnight Line," the number one rule Jack Reacher has now is to keep moving. While resting along a bus route he randomly finds himself looking at a tiny, hard-earned West Point class ring at a pawn shop and sets about on a quest to return it to a fellow veteran who may be down on her luck and short on hope. He quickly discovers that he will need to pull more than a few strings, and acquire new allies, as finding her has entangled him in more than one open investigation spread across multiple government bureaus in addition to disrupting a western drug empire supplied by "the midnight line." The final question is: Will it be worth the trouble?

Honestly, I think Jack Reacher pays a pretty high price for his curiosity but given the comradeship between veterans and how important some symbols are to them, it makes for a believable story. This book definitely fits very into the action/suspense/espionage/military fiction category and requires that you keep up with at least two plot lines happening simultaneously in at least three different locations integral to the story. Most everything that the author spends time describing has a reason which relates to understanding future action, strategy, or character development. The topics of drug addiction and wounded veterans are key aspects of this book and it would be a good read for those interested in books about missing persons. If you like stories like "the Bourne Identity" or any other book by Robert Ludlum this should be an author you would enjoy. This one's a keeper for my library.

This book is more my style. Lee Child is a great author with far too many books to count. He created an excellent character in Jack Reacher and the movies are pretty sweet as well.

I love the Jason Bourne novels by Robert Ludlum. In addition, I think Eric Van Lustbader did a great job with his Jason Bourne novels. They are some of my favorite books.

Robert Ludlum is one of my favorites. He has a whole section in my library and I agree that Eric Van Lustbader has done a great job in keeping with Bournes character and adventures.

This was actually my first Lee Child book and I really liked it. I want to read the others too as I'm sure they would give me more background into Jack Reacher's character.

Yeah, Lee Child is an exciting author. Lot's of reading to be had!
