The Emperor and the Nightingale by Hans Christian Anderson
Have you ever heard of the Emperor who lived in a porcelain palace? Outside of his palace and into the forest that lay around it was a nightingale. The nightingale sung so magnificent that the music was addictive.
The Emperor found out about the nightingale from a book written by guests who visited his city and palace. Up until then he knew nothing of the beautiful songs it sang.
When the emperor’s servants came among the nightingale they said,
Is this truly the nightingale? It does not look beautiful.
The servants ask the nightingale to come sing for the emperor and at first the nightingale was hesistant because it stated that its place was in the forest. After, going to sing for the emperor the nightingale was held in captivity in the palace to be at the emperor’s disposal.
After the emperor received a gift of a mechanical nightingale that sung beautifully the real nightingale took the opportunity to escape from the palace back into the forest.
Years went by and the mechanical bird began to sing only once a year. While the emperor lay on his bed begging the mechanical nightingale to sing but no one was there to wind him up. The emperor laid dying and begging the mechanical bird to sing and then he heard the real nightingale sing throw his window. The music revived his health and he became healthier.
I like this book because of the author who wrote it . It is a good story to share during story time.
