Yes, it's the book that is being adapted into a Steven Spielberg movie. "Ready Play One" is the debut book of author Ernest Cline in 2011. Let me start with the highest recommendation I can give a book: I read this book instead of sleeping at night, when I need to wake up at 5 in the morning to go to work.

The book describes a dystonian future in which there are too many people than the earth can bear, famine, wars and diseases are widespread and everyone want to simply escape from reality into the OASIS. A virtual reality that contains everyone's wildest dreams. The creator of the OASIS has passed away and will leave the control of his company and all of his money to the person who finds the Easter Egg hidden inside of the OASIS. The protagonist of the novel is Wade Watts, a high schooler who spends most of his time looking for the Egg. Since the creator of OASIS was obsessed with 80's pop culture, 80's pop culture is the most popular thing in Wade's world. I enjoyed this book even though I don't actually remember the 80's. However, Wade isn't the only one looking for the egg, almost everyone on the planet are looking for it. This will cause many conflicts and problem, and also brave friendships and shared values.

On the surface it's a fun book. It starts a bit slow with a lot of world building and then it shifts into high gear. It does explore the meanings and consequences of spending most of your time in a virtual reality, but it's not necessarily a cautionary tale. I would say that it is more of a cautionary tale about evil cooperates who have too much control in society.

I don't know what Steven Spielberg will do with this excellent book, but the trailer doesn't even scratch the surface of this great book. Really recommended for people who love science fiction and a bit of dystopias.

Also the first song in the trailer is a remix for "World in My Eyes" by Depeche Mode, my favorite song, so I'm biased towards liking the movie.

I didn't read the book, but I have seen the trailers. While I gravitate to dystopian movies, this one didn't look very appealing to me. I will probably see it at the theater, but I have doubts...

I'm not sure Steven Spielberg is the right fit for the material, but I loved the book. Movies are always not as good as the books.

No doubt. I just had the conversation with another Steemit user.

That's why for now, I'm only recommending the book. The only case I think one can actually debate whether a movie is better than the book is Blade Runner.

Interesting choice. I have seen a few. I can recall writing about them in the past. But none come to mind right now. It is just that uncommon.

Yeah. I finished reading Blade Runner just last month and watched the old and new movie recently, so it's fresh in my mind.
I heard that Vampire Dairies is a better TV show than the books. But nothing else comes to mind. Books are just better.

This sounds like an interesting read, thank you readingdanvers :)

Your very welcome :)
