Book-review: Children Of Blood And Bone.

Well I started this year with the hope that it would be a little stressfree but the reverse seems to be the case. Work came running down like a forced rain from the sky, showing life can not always be the way we do expect it. I hope I pull through.

So I finally finished reading my own copy of Children Of Blood And Bone by @tadeyemibooks which I got last year from @rovingheights, during my visit to Lagos, (names can be found on Instagram).

I was busy and also lazy to review it immediately I was done reading it, but it's never still late.

First am not really cool with the cover available in my country, (no offence). Maybe it's because am a bookwhore just as my friend would say.

Now the story.
The story is about a girl who's mother was killed because she practiced magic forbidden by the king of the land.
Zélie was her name. The heroine, brave, stubborn, timid with a unique personality.
She was chosen by the gods with Amari (a princess) and Tzain(her brother) to save orïsha by travelling to Chándomblé in bringing back magic that was dead in the land.

Different gods given gifts (Magic) was seen and expressed bringing out the beauty of diversities.

Among the protagonist, my most favourite was Amari. She showed the true definition of a true friend. She was different by not acting like how a normal and prideful princess would do all through the journey to Chándomblé.
And the most lovely part was when she killed her father, the king who's phobia for magic was solid, blinding him from seeing any good in magic at all. The king who had the guts to kill his son not minding all he did for him.

I smiled when Amari said 'I would make a far better queen' as she killed the king with her sword.

On the romance part, I loved the chemistry between Tzain and Amari.
But that of Zélie and Inan(the brother to Amari, showing his a prince) wasn't cool to me at all.
He was sent by his dad to kill Zélie and destroy magic forever but things kinda turned around because he his own magic.

The love established between Zélie and Inan was too quick and sudden.
I do know of stories that the main character and the antagonist falls in love but that of Zélie wasn't really it - it's the type I call too blind to see mostly in the girl's veiw.

I wasn't really trusting the way Inan behaved with Zélie at first but it became clearer to me when the legion of the royal guards attacked the celebration. He didn't really show any sign of help during the catastrophe that took place why him and Zélie were together.

The ending part of the book made curious and wondering why didn't Amari magic displayed until the end. why did it has to be the last fight that her magic got to display because during the whole encounters on their way to bring back magic, it would have been useful.
And finally what would be the story of the village.

Well I can't wait to see what the second trilogy (Children of Virtue and Vengeance) has for us this year.
