Fact: Fat faster when you breathe in contaminated air
Contamination of the atmosphere can greatly affect the weight of people.
In a new study published in the journal Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, researchers found that laboratory rats exposed to polluted air in Beijing had gained weight only three weeks later.
To investigate the effects of pollution on weight, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, scientists divided into two groups of female mothers rats and their generation: one group is constantly exposed to air from Beijing and the other in an isolated medium with filtered and clean air. After 19 days, mothers exposed to polluted air were 50 percent higher LDL cholesterol, 97 percent higher total cholesterol, and 46 percent increased triglycerides. The rats were heavier, slower and with increased inflammation of the tissues. Similar results are also observed in the young generation who lived in the same conditions with their mothers. Negative effects were seen only after 3 weeks but were not as shocking as after the eighth week. This means that prolonged inflammatory and metabolic changes that lead to weight gain can only occur with long-term exposure to contaminated air.
Compared to rats living in clean conditions, those in polluted living conditions were 10% more severe in males and 18% heavier in females. Both groups of rats were subjected to an identical diet. These data support the conclusion that exposure to polluted air leads to metabolic changes that are a precursor to weight gain. There are other studies that also indicate that dirty air leads to similar health problems and changes in physiology. If these observations are relevant to the human species, this will give us another reason to think about the state of the environment in which we live. There are studies that show that exposure to polluted air can adversely affect memory and intelligence. Another study found a possible link between air quality and the risk of developing autism and schizophrenia.
No wonder why the Chinese are paying $ 100 for a fresh air jar from Canada.
