The Sixty-Four $teem Question

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

@trinumedia asked a great question: What Adds Value to Steem?

His response is that content is king and that Steemians should work harder to create great content.

I am one of those cynical who fears that there is truth behind Marshall McLuhan's claim that the medium is the message.

The defining character of SteemIt is Steem. The workflow around mining steem drives the platform. Notably, workflow and compensation flow follow a seven day cycle.

One really only gets compensated for the immediate impact that a post has this week.

If I was doing some great research on political candidates for the upcoming election, I would not use SteemIt because the information I am producing won't be consumed until the election severl months from now.

@trinumedia said that he would like to see more education materials like tutorials. Again, the people who would benefit from my tutorial won't show up in the first week after publication.

Lets imagine that a person wrote a great article. Google scans the article and it scores a top position for a great keyword and Google starts sending the article a thousand hits a day.

The post is past the seven day cycle. All this traffic is just wasted bandwidth as far as the SteemIt compensation model is concerned.

Now it would be great to have a compensation model that encouraged the development of lasting content.

The current compensation model of steemit.com supports social networking. Since the form of a medium tends to determine the content of the message, I am happy with this realization.

i would love to see the development of mechanisms that support the development of high quality content. Social networking platforms can be used in conjunction with such projects. But the structure such projects must be different.

ADDED: Apparently this question was started by a whale named Tim Cliff . The reward on the original post is already over $122.

I agree with you. It needs to be more long term and permanent - not based of "virality".

Reading your topic makes me think that Content may be King, but Social Networking is Queen. One can't be without the other to survive.

My deeper thoughts is that the item of real value is the crypto-currency Steem and that the long term value of Steem will be found outside SteemIt. This is a much longer post.
