Chronos - The Greek God of Time

Chronos is also known as Cronos, from the Latin Krónos. With this god there is a very usual confusion with the titan Cronos, from the Latin Cronus, and father of Zeus.

Chornos is the personification of time, incorporeal. In Greek mythology it is said that thanks to its union with Ananke (goddesses of inevitability) around the primal egg gave rise to the solid material and that it was divided into three parts: earth, sky and sea, thus causing the creation of the ordered universe.

In this way Ananke and Chronos remain always united and known as the forces of destiny and time, guiding the inevitability in the course of the heavens, and the inevitable passage of time. That is why they are the origin and controllers of other future gods such as Zeus himself. According to the Orphic current, its union with Ananké also gave birth to four children: Chaos, Ether, Erebus and Fanes. These are also considered primal gods, predecessors of the origin of life.

God Of Human Time

There is the error of associating it with Cronos, the "god of human time" and leader of the titans, that is why the error is also made of referring to Saturn as the Roman god associated with Chronos, but it is instead to Cronos, to whom the association should be made. The problem lies in that when considering both "gods of time", they have to be indifferent.
This error can be seen referenced in the Saturn Picture devouring a son of Francisco Goya. In the picture Saturn devours his son, but it was not Chronos who owes this story if not Titan Cronos. Married to his sister Rhea, it was revealed to him that one of his sons would dethrone him as ruler of the gods, so he made the decision to devour them. But the last of them, Zeus, was saved by his mother and later turned out to be the one who dethroned Kronos from his throne, rescued his brothers from his father, and became the ruler of the gods.

We could say that with the passage of time it has been more common to associate the god of time and Saturn with Cronos, and therefore the use of both gods (Chronos and Cronos) has been unified as one. In fact, in the mythological figure of Father Time, which is the representation of time in popular culture, his figure is derived from the Greek titan Cronos and is accompanied by the grim reaper on many occasions that represents death (death would be the inevitability if we were talking about the initial representation). Also the planet Saturn (like the Greek god) is the representation in astronomy of this figure.

Greek Mythology

It is really difficult to differentiate and mark a single historical line in Greek mythology, both in the history of the god Chronos, and that of many other gods and myths, due to the multitude of traditions that exist in turn. Not as it happens in Norse mythology, where the stories tend to be more linear and with few nuances in their versions. Besides that it could be said that this first, the Greek, is much more extensive in characters than his Nordic companion.
From the paths of the wind, we will try to make these stories heard, and to get to know each other. Because every story and character that appears in it deserves our attention.

The Original Latin Name

Spanish is a language that can sometimes give complications when translating terms or names of other languages, as happens with this god. On the one hand, the original Latin name of Chronos, is Khronos, from the Greek is χρονος. Whereas Cronos instead says Κρόνος, which in Latin is Cronus. When introducing the name to the Spanish language it was decided to substitute the K for the C on the one hand, and the evolution of the term 'us' occurred, which happened to be 'or' for another, giving rise to how they are currently known.

This added to the already difficult separation between both gods of time, gives rise to both words generate confusion in itself, getting to see this error in many works and resources, which tend to unify, ignoring the existence of Chronos.
There is no need to think about Chronos vs. Chronos, but about Khronos vs. Cronus, the primal god personification of time vs. the god of human time. For two are the gods, and separately they must know and remember each other.
