No Language to Describe It
The Words Don't Exist
When we try to talk about the inner mind,
we'll search for words, but will no doubt find
that our language hasn't been in there before
and can nary describe so much as the door
that leads into that unspoken realm of mind
where those who dare travel are the oddest kind
There is no name for that partition
between sleep and startled wakefulness
that twilight around the drain
strangely, has no name
There's no definition for the texted words
too close to read, or spoken but not heard
that drift past the reader on the edge of a dream
who wonders-- if briefly-- what message they've missed
on the threshold of unconsciousness, that lingual abyss
deprived of the words to describe it at all,
a world can be said to not exist
so that all that we have, and all we can voice
is the stone pathway on this side of the mist
...
Highly rEsteemed!
Thank you, Sir!
Are you a poet too? What surprises is the world going to learn soon?
Its old habit from writing song lyrics- poetic verses and lines
We've gone to that point, we've reached the edge
yet to push past the border is far too much
We push ourselves further to stand on the ledge
to look, to love, to feel, and such
I don't understand this anymore than you do
It's something far beyond our minds
But I enjoy exploring there too
Searching, reaching beyond those blinds.
there aren't words to describe it
you can't put at label on it
you can't talk about it
but it is there...
Nice post!!
I like how you rhymed drain with name.
Swat I like about poetry, there are few rules!
Very nice poetry. It reminds me of the times when I have an inner feelings that are fleeting, infrequent and uncommon and which do not have specific definitions or descriptions. There are no words to describe and label them so they only exist as a recognized feeling. In these moments i try to hold on to the feeling for as long as i can but then my mind searches its database determined to label it. The feeling passes quickly, as if my brain says "well i cannot label this thing so I'm moving on to think about things i recognize."
And that's just the doorway, after that, we just don't have the English to describe any of it.
This is the kind of poetry that speaks to me, fall's magic has seeped into your bones I think :)
It's autumn, and I've been working on lots of songs lately, gets the flow going in the noggin!
The nonexistent words of a comment, here but not and for all to enjoy like that time when you were still a little boy and lost your favorite toy.
I read between the lines that weren't there, then tried to make a rhyme in the silence. There was a quiet, so I thought I'd try it.
Not every word exists. Expressions that are not commonly used may not find a home in a word. Many such phrases or expressions are often better served in the nonverbal language. Thanks for a very good article @therealpaul
