Syd's Vacation Daily Blog Challenge - Day 1: Introduction

in #blog5 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone! I'm back again! I know I've been gone a while, but I haven't forgotten about you. I've been wanting to blog again for a while. In fact I have at least two ideas for series that I've been pondering. I've just never taken the time to actually get around to it. So what's changed? Why now?

As I've covered before, I live in the Montreal area and I am quite involved in the improv community here. Well there's a big intersection between improv and sketch comedy, and the 2019 edition of Montreal Sketchfest is upon us now! This is a very special time of year for me, and although I don't really do sketch, I do take time off from work to make sure I can attend every show that I can.

This being my first day of vacation, it was eerily fitting that I was listening to the latest edition of the School Sucks Podcast today. Towards the end, Isaac Morehouse went on a rant about the virtues of blogging daily. He talks about how he was inspired by his friend to start blogging every day for a year, and says it changed his life. For Praxis, he condensed it down to a one-month challenge. Although even that bar still seems too high for me, I AM on vacation. Blogging every day for the next 10 days is quite a reasonable challenge, even for me!

So here I am. No matter what happens, I'm committing in front of everyone to post at least once every day until Sunday, May 12th. One of the things that's been holding me back from blogging here more regularly is not being sure what to blog about (I know! "Welcome to the club!" 😂 It's still the truth though! 😊). It would be great if over the next 10 days something emerged. I haven't lost sight of the two topics I thought of months ago.

The ideal, the best possible outcome for me, would be for me to have a "blogging pipeline" that I could just tap into more consistently. I've been quite consistently active on Instagram for over a year now (maybe I'll cover why stopped posting on Steepshot during this challenge). I'm bringing it up because I definitely have a pipeline for Instagram. I would love to have that here too.

Regardless of anything, based on what I heard in the last School Sucks Podcast, this might be the beginning of a great transformation. It'd be super great if this turned into a 30 day challenge, but the one thing that I'm absolutely committing to is these next 10 days. GAME ON!

You could try out the Partiko dapp. It has a few features that you don't get on the regular Steemit website. I'm actually starting to get quite used to using it when I'm not in front of the computer. If your images are on your phone, then just upload the image and copy paste the caption for it from Insta to Partiko. Worth a try and I think you might like it better than Steepshot.

Yeah I have it on my phone and can't wait to get used to it. I can't see myself using it to post long form blog entries tho. Dictation software is too important to how I work and although my phone does have dictation, it doesn't work as well. Maybe commenting on it tho (this was typed on my laptop. 😇)

Yeah, when I started using it, it was to upvote and comment. Then I began checking more things on it from time to time, since it has the feature of letting you view who mentioned you in a post and more of your wallet history.

I rarely use it to post something, but when I do, I make sure to select the "Use Partiko Points" option for an extra upvote from Partiko. Earning points is a nice perk.

Here's a secret: I know when you comment NOT on Partiko. How? Because when people comment from the Partiko dapp, it's automatically mentioned below the comment: "Posted on Partiko." heheh
