Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 07/28/18> Just a little short of the goal… but that won’t stop SBI Saturday

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

This week I was fortunate to be able to spend some time at home in the evenings, I was only on the road one night this week. One thing the wife and I like to do in the evenings is sit outside in the lawn chairs and just visit. We will usually take one of the dogs out with us, since they really don’t pay attention to what we are conversing about. The kids on the other hand are a whole different story; they will be up in our conversations neck deep.

The girls are the ones who seem to be most interested right now since they both have birthdays coming up in August; I guess they are hoping to over hear what we might have in store for those events. I hate to break it to you girls; there isn’t anything special in the works. We will be doing the usual birthday routine, you are both special, but it is just too damn hot in August for something extra special.

Have you ever just sat and looked at the moon? The moon is a really fascinating object, and I really don’t believe we know a tenth of the truth about the moon. I’m not going to go all conspiracy theory on you here and tell you things that might sound a little crazy, but looking at the full moon on Friday night just reinforces my belief that we don’t know even a tenth of the truth about the moon.

One thing I can tell you with 100% accuracy and full confidence is that today is Saturday, and that means it is time to give away some SBI, steem basic income. Even though I was counting on hitting that $100K Max Payout on last week’s SBI post I am not overly disappointed, we only missed it by $99,998.67, it could have been a lot worse.

I think recently that I had asked for some help from you readers of the daily dose for some help in selecting some worthy folks for the SBI, not anyone even responded with one suggestion, I really would listen to your suggestions. Each week I get to have all the fun picking the winners but I am open to suggestions.

Without any further delay here are my three selections for this week, @rfelix , @thirdparty , and @thegoldenpics2 . Now some of might not recognize any of these choices but I have a very good reason for selecting each and every one of them. @rfelix has been on steemit a total of 22 minutes, @thirdparty 28 minutes and @the goldenpics2 is the old timer in the bunch, he has been here 44 minutes as of the time I have selected them.

New users are the future of this place, we can piss and moan about the price of steem and all the other crap that goes on here like flagging wars and bidbots and the like but the only thing that will overcome all that crap is to make these real live new users feel welcome here.

So my looking at the moon, might have influenced this week’s selections. Just like the man on the moon is feeling all alone, these folks are too, steemit is another world, so this is my welcome gift to them landing on our planet here. I sincerely hope that each and every one of them takes this place by storm and they recruit all their friends and family.

Now that I went and found them and introduced them to you, I am headed back to greet them, I hope you will join me there.

Until next time,
@sultnpapper

Thanks, very much appreciated.

What a great way to welcome new users :)

Thanks, I haven't spent nearly enough time back in the introduceyourself pages lately. I won't be welcoming all the new users that way but at least all three did reply and thank me so that is encouraging and I hope it encourages them to stick around and make a go of it here. Two of my favorite and most loyal friends and supporters on here joined the same time as me and we have all grown together on here, I need to go reply to the "thank you's" and give them that suggestion of reaching out to other new users. For us three it was like the blind leading the blind but we all hung in and have done okay for ourselves and that is what it is all about in my opinion.

@sultnpapper I think I may do the same, at the start this place can be overwhelming so its good to help new users get started

If we want it to grow we all need to be a part of fostering that growth, getting people here hasn't been the problem it has been retaining them. So I think giving them clear expectations and advice from us that have managed to stick around only makes perfect sense.

@sultnpapper Ys I totally agree and I have been slack in that regard but I will work on it

I am with you, @sultnpapper. New users are the future of steemit. Very happy to see you welcoming this way with SBI. You know that it is a strange thing about the moon. I remember studying it intently in my younger years, trying to get a glimpse of the man up there, but more often than not, I didn't spy him. I did, however, see the rabbit.

The moon is one of the mysteries in life for sure. What I could never wrap my head around with the moon is how you can see so much detail in it with just the naked eye or a very low powered telescope, no way do I believe it is 294,000 miles from earth. Our eyes are not that good to see that detail that far with even a decent telescope. I have heard that there have been tests using lasers where they shot a laser at the moon and then measured the amount of time it took for the beam to bounce back and using the time calculations it put the moon at a distance of about 100 to 120 kilometers.
If that is the case, that explains why we can see the man and the rabbit, but it doesn't explain why the folks at NASA and other agencies would lie to us about the moon. It makes this old man wonder for sure.

It does make one wonder doesn't it?

I think its great you are supporting newbies, I hope they stick around long enough to enjoy sbi.. We really need a turnaround here on steemit, it has been way to dead lately :/
I totally agree with you on the moon thing... but I'm just a crazy, tinfoil hat wearing hippie, so who cares what i think ;) LoL

Yes, the way to help turn the tide is to jump in and start splashing, I use to do it all the time and I sort of fell of the wagon. So I will be trying to rectify that mess up and get back on tract with it.
I like the jumbo rolls of tin foil, saves me money.

You and I will certainly agree about the beauty of the moon. I spent a full moon weekend on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon a few years ago, and it's one of the most incredible weekends of my life. Amazing.

As of today I am officially returned from my travels. I actually got back yesterday afternoon but it was 115F when I got here and I didn't get much done but drink fluids yesterday. Today has been slow, but steady :)

Anyway, I'm glad to be back, if for no other reason than to be able to read and comment on your post every day, Sam got here today so it's a happy household once again. Course it helps that Sam is just a plain happy dog.

Thanks for being here when I got back.

Well welcome back and I am sure Sam was glad to see you as well. Is this going to be your only long trip this summer?
Can't wait to see some more, I also did some looking into the Snake River and the Columbia River area and how those areas and rivers were formed, pretty interesting from what I saw.
You can count on me being here for sure, at least through Sept. 11 of this year.
