Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 05/19/18> We interrupt our normally scheduled daily dose…
How many times have we heard the words, “we interrupt our normally scheduled program for this breaking news” ? Plenty of times is right, actually way too many, and luckily for me I never heard it once on Friday. Santa Fe, Texas is just the latest on the list of school shootings and it won’t be the last. It could be, but it won’t be and I say that with complete certainty on both parts of that statement.
It won’t be the last because we continue to have a bunch of kids who seem to not be able to cope with their situations and they only know how to get even with people by blowing them away with a firearm. I wonder if all the video games with all the killing on those might have been able to have desensitized these kids just a touch. As long as we keep reproducing and raising them like we have been we can rest assured that the next school shooting is just around the corner in time.
This school shooting didn’t interrupt any television program for me, but it did interrupt my regularly scheduled Daily Dose column for Saturday. Normally for the last few weeks I have been doing a combination Daily Dose that combined Shoutout Saturday with Comedy Open Mic contests and I also managed to give away some steembasicincome in there as well. This Daily Dose just isn’t going to cut it as I am not in a humorous mood, besides, the people over at comedy open mic are good people, but I don’t think they quite get this old man’s humor.
So that leaves me with some shout outs and some basic giving away of steembasicincome.
Steembasicincome is designed for people who actually post material on here and not really for people who browse and comment so when I started looking through my mental notebook of deserving people I also wanted to keep in mind people who have the ability to produce and post material so they will actually get some benefit from it.
First on list this week is @amariespeaks , she is a nice young lady who is all about helping newbies on here and also she runs a bait shop that is only open on Monday’s, I think the name of it is Minnow Monday’s or something like that. She does have some good bait over there, you won’t be catching any whales with it, but those minnows can grow. I have caught a couple little ones myself over there and am waiting for them to grow up.
Next we have @magicalmoonlight and she is into the crystals, chakras, inspiration and she has something to do with #beyondtheveil which is just a little past where I venture right now. Her writings are always interesting and she knows how to tell a good story. Like most folks on here, her work is usually under monetized so be sure and go by and throw a few votes her way.
@cecicastor is my final selection for this week. When she writes her stories draw you right in and then start squeezing you. When I first discovered her it was on chapter eight of an ongoing project, which I then read going backwards from there. Then I turned right around and read the whole thing from page one up to the current. She has her hands full right now with a little civil unrest in her country but she has been real good about keeping us up to date on her family’s safety and what is taking place down there in general in Nicaragua.
So congratulations to all my selections for this week, it is my pleasure to give you this little gift that should keep on giving.
I mentioned that this shooting in Texas on Friday could be the last school shooting and I believe it could be if the people running the education system would get their heads out of the 1700’s and join us here in 2018. “What do I mean by that?”, you ask. I’ll tell you right now.
For some reason we still think we need to drag all the young kids to the school house for them to get an education and that just isn’t the case anymore. With computers and internet there no longer is a need to put these kids in school house buildings. Every school district could provide a computer and wireless card that would connect the computer to the school district system. The teachers could teach from home, or from an office building. All assignments can be submitted electronically, all tests could be done the same way as well.
The costs of the computers and wireless would be offset by the savings in buses, food service, utilities and reduced staffs in the school districts. When we started having to have school districts with their own police forces that should have been a clue right there that the system needed an overhaul.
This will never happen though, because schools haven’t been about education since the late 70’s, the schools have become day care facilities so that both parents and single parents can work and have a place to keep an eye on their kids. I know it may sound crazy, but I think that crazy is sending your kid to a school that could be a death trap, that is a whole lot more crazy than my idea.
The government says the school districts must provide a free public education; tell me where my idea doesn’t provide that? Don’t try to tell me that the kids needs social interaction with each other, even when they are sitting at the same table they are texting each other instead of just talking to each other. I see it all the time in restaurants when I travel, after a few minutes of texting back and forth, one will pop their head up long enough to look across the table and exclaim “seriously!!!’ as the other one nods their head. Then they both go back to texting each other.
The shock value of school shootings has worn off, it is becoming common place, and we will continue to have unproductive town hall meetings and protests. I have given the solution to the problem; we just need some school officials to start thinking about what is really best for the kids.
Until next time,

I like to call them indoctrination camps.. They ruin children and teach them that mob mentality is the rule of law. They suck out creativity and uniqueness and then top it off they ruin their potential by keeping them all together in "common core" classes. I think an overhaul is definitely an understatement. I didn't know you were in sbi, I will send you a sbi sponsorship if you you send me one ;)
I agree and I have sent yours to sbi. I had not thought of swapping sponsorship with people but it makes sense too do.
I sent in yours to sbi too.. Yeah, @paradigmprospect offered to sponsor me if i sponsored him and since then every time I see someone who talks about sbi I offer the swap. Its really a 2 for 1 deal if both parties send in steem! I call that a win win! :)
I agree. Totally. No reason at all to think otherwise.
I have believed this for years. It's basically "hands-on-training" in how to handle frustration.
I never seriously considered having kids -- for many reasons. But I'd never have sent them to public school. Not only would they have gotten a far better education from me, but I wouldn't have spent my days worried about them being bullied, "peer-pressured" or shot.
I don't know how well that would have socialized them to deal with life in "the real world," but I'm not all that crazy about the real world myself.
Our oldest boy went through the public education system, that was enough for us. The other three each got a couple years and then we decided to pull the plug on it mainly because of medical reasons, but we look at that as a blessing in disguise now. One of the victims of the Santa Fe shooting we found out is a nephew of a lady that my wife volunteers with up at our church on Tuesdays. Needless to say she is in shock that this happened, Santa Fe is a small little town with very low crime, I can't even remember even hearing of a murder there in the last 30 years let alone something like this.
When people start filing suites against the school board members for incidents like this, then they might start considering an alternative like I proposed here in this dose. The board are the ones who are ultimately responsible for what happens in their districts on their watch.
Your proposal makes so much sense. That's why we'll never hear anyone in government recommend it.
Thank you for the shoutout, @sultnpapper and the steembasicincome! It is greatly appreciated.
It is very sad state of affairs when children are no longer safe in schools. Totally agree, that homeschooling is a much better option. As far as kids not getting socialization opportunities with homeschooling, my four sons turned out just fine and are probably more well rounded than kids that have been lumped in with their appropriate age group. They had plenty of opportunities to engage in outside activities scout, sports, and air cadets. I think they make friends easier and their interests are more varied than their peer group. They are well travelled and speak several languages fluently which they might not have gotten in a formal schooling. They were also taught to think outside the box and to be able to problem solve. They all went on to get higher education but they did it on their terms.
The other day, my cousin sent me a copy of an eighth-grade end of year exam, for the year 1890. I was amazed at the questions on a very wide range of topics, some of which kids in high school don't get until they reach college. Our education system, in whichever country you are in, is designed to make good little robots that never question anything...
Yes, I can't remember for sure sure if it was Carnegie or Rockefeller who said it but the gist of it was, they wanted to control the education system because they weren't looking for thinkers, they wanted laborers. It has been like that ever since, pretty sure it was Rockefeller now that I think I about, that is why he started the Rockefeller Center for Education, and pushed for the department of education at a national level.
These school shootings are horrific mr Papper, why oh why, and this is children!
No doubt they are Lizelle, and it has become common place now. Guns aren't the problem either like most people will be screaming for more gun laws and gun confiscation. The problem is mental health, and you can expect things like this when you are doping kids from the time they can walk because they have a "disorder", ADHD is one they like to use for just about anything.
I agree, Ritalin and the likes has it's place but teachers are too quick to advise parents that their children possibly have ADHD, doctors also prescribe it way too readily. It makes their job easier but what are the long term effects? I know of adults who are still taking Ritalin!
Thank you so much for including me in this @sultnpapper, it is truly an honor! For the rest of the post, it saddens me that this is such a talked about topic these days. I seen my friends on Facebook the other day stating that they were heart broken because several of them had to have "the talk" with their children. Unfortunately, the talk has turned into what to do if there is an active shooter in your school.
I don't know where things went wrong, honestly. I think it has a lot to do with several things. I do know that my daughter starts school this year and I absolutely hate the thought of sending her. I will do everything in my power to try and find a way to get ahead in life as quickly as possible before she starts middle school so that I can homeschool her.
Your welcome. I can't blame you for wanting to home and I hope you can be in that position when the time comes.
