Are you 'PHUBBING' your Relationship?

in #blog7 years ago

Every now and then we are responsible for snubbing people around us. Occasional snubbing sounds okay but if you do it over a period of time in your relationship then of course you are either to lose the relationship or distant yourself from someone who might have been special to you.

Why do we snub others?

The reasons could be various. Maybe we are irritated or bored or move forward or the other person has very strange habits. Whatever the reason is, we all are guilty of snubbing someone at some time in our life.

But now there is a new phenomenon called 'Phubbing'/'phone-snubbing.'

Yes phone-subbing

Most of us do this every day and every hour. We stop the people in the mid conversation just to check why our phone buzzed. the term is not created by me. It has bee researched, campaigned, surveyed and now part of Oxford English Dictionary.

This phubbing has become a sort of chronic disease as all of us have social media accounts. We are part of group chats. We are notified about the tweets. Maybe we are trying to stay updated with the rapidly globally growing world around us. But this attempt is leading to phubbing which is proving intoxicating to the relationships around us. We go out for a dinner with friends but we spend 80% time on phone. We are watching a movie with a partner but we end up snap chatting most of the time, about the movie, to those people who are not even sitting next to us.

This produces a chill-effect in our relationships.

Some of us are so addicted to the phones that we cannot even watch a TV show or a football amtch without even sharing the details on social media.

Beware! Do not let phubbing destroy your beautiful human contact. You do not want to end up lonely at the end of the day.

So what should be done to avoid phubbing a relationship?

Firstly, you have to identify if this habit is actually destroying your relationship. If both the parties are guilty to some extent then you have to make some pact. Dedicate a day or some time in a day to be technology-free time. Dedicate this time to enjoy the presence of each other and indulge in simpler pleasures of life.

Secondly, the research has shown that at the average human mind can only retain up to almost 2% of the information that is received through social media. We scroll and scroll for hours and the end result is what? Actually nothing at all.

Try this yourself also. Open your social media feed with some purpose. Maybe search for something. Put a timer for 15 minutes. And you will see that you are miles away from your original plan at the end of 15 minutes. (surprised!!!)

You should actually sit down one day and decide which apps or features and notifications are totally useless and are just sucking up your time. After doing this tedious feat, you will realise that you will have ample time at your disposal to have healthy relations rather than simply phubbing them away.

Finally, all relationships work differently. Phubbing might be one of the reasons. If you want it to work out then you will eliminate every single excuse. But if you are actually bent upon destroying your relationship then continue phubbing. It can turn out to be your best excuse.

Value the people around you.

Cherish their physical presence lest you lose every worthy individual in your life.

Happy peopling and relation-shipping :)

I am sure my friend @old-guy-photos  will understand what I am saying :P

And of course your feedback is much appreciated :)

Yes I have had this happen with just an acquaintance. I find it horribly wrong! People are sinking lower by the day!
This was a really great read and thanks for posting in #oldtimers!!! I upped it!

Good post! :) its really common and annoying habit. I find myself doing it from time to time, automatically.
At parties or other social group settings, i am more strict, and keeping the phone in pocket.

Thank you for appreciating...
well at least, you have defined boundaries for yourself whereas youngsters today have blurred those fine lines.

and yes im following you :)

Yeah, my little brother sometime sends snaps from being at parties with friends. Its a sad image of 8 people sitting around a table looking at their phone..

Yes, we're getting isolated by this issue and of course the culprit is not the cellphone or social media but we ourselves should be blamed to create this situation. As excess of everything is bad, we should definitely limits about where to not use phone. Thanks for highlighting this issue. I'm letting more people know by resteeming .
